What happened

  • Ethereum developers hold their 189th All Core Developers Consensus call on Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. ET, with 90 minutes allotted.
  • Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is scheduled to speak with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva at 11:30 p.m. ET on Oct. 15.
  • Singapore's monetary authority closes its stablecoin consultation on Oct. 16, covering proposed changes to payment regulation.

Why it matters

  • decision Anyone positioned for unchanged rates in October gets two data mornings to test that call, and the less settled December call is the one the prints can move.
  • constraint Builders planning around Glamsterdam get discussion this week: the reported material covers a testnet activation on Sepolia but does not name a mainnet date.
  • cost Existing holders of Cronos, Starknet, Arbitrum and Connex carry the cost, since each unlock adds between 1.39% and 3.37% to circulating supply and any selling would push the price down.
  • exposure If Gitcoin's quorum cut passes, a valid proposal needs 1 million fewer GTC, so a smaller voting bloc can decide later votes.

The figure to watch on Oct 14 is the 0.6% monthly CPI forecast [1], or rather the 0.4-point distance between it and the 0.2% forecast for core [3][25]. Core leaves out food and energy [7], so those two categories carry the difference, give or take rounding. Both numbers are forecasts from an economic calendar, and crypto.news noted they are market estimates, not figures confirmed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics [6].

The PPI forecast of 5.3% [4] is 1.7 points above the 3.6% CPI forecast [1][21], down from a gap of 2.0 points between the prior readings of 5.4% and 3.4% [4][2][22]. Core shows the same drift: forecasts of 4.4% for core PPI and 2.5% for core CPI leave 1.9 points [5][3][23], against 2.2 points on the previous 4.6% and 2.4% [5][3][24].

We think the week's signal is producer and consumer inflation narrowing toward each other, with monthly core CPI easing to 0.2% from 0.3% [3]. For the Fed's October meeting, crypto.news's outlook anticipates unchanged rates and calls December less settled [8]. The comparison is crude, two indices set side by side, and it exists only on paper until the prints arrive. Three outcomes are open on Oct 14 and 15: the gap narrows as forecast, PPI comes in above its 5.4% prior [4], or core CPI repeats its prior 0.3% [3]. Either of the last two would break our reading.

The unlocks add up to $116.53 million across four tokens [13][14][15][16][28], above the "more than $100 million" crypto.news cited [19]. Cronos is 62.7% of that total on its own [29]. Share and dollars point different ways. Starknet's Oct 15 unlock is the largest of the four by share at 3.37%, but its $13.2 million [14] implies a circulating base near $392 million [30], while Cronos's 2.33% [13] implies about $3.14 billion [31]. None of the sources says the recipients will sell.

On the governance side, Gitcoin is voting to cut its Snapshot quorum from 2.5 million GTC to 1.5 million, a 40% reduction [18][26], with voting ending Oct 15 [18]. ArbitrumDAO's USDG vote enters an offchain stage the same day and is targeted to run through Oct 22 [17]. The Ethereum call is a discussion forum: its agenda is Glamsterdam, Hegotá and improvements to the hard fork process [10]. Glamsterdam includes protocol-level proposer-builder separation and block access lists, and developers activated it on the Sepolia testnet on Oct 6 [11].

What to watch

  • Oct. 14 and 15 prints: core CPI at 0.3% or more, or PPI above its 5.4% prior, would end the narrowing-gap forecast.
  • Gitcoin's quorum vote, which ends Oct. 15, and whether ArbitrumDAO's USDG vote, running to Oct. 22, passes.
  • Whether the Oct. 15 Ethereum call moves Glamsterdam beyond the Sepolia testnet where it was activated on Oct. 6.
