Cookies and storage
Last updated 2 October 2026
Clarity uses a few cookies and browser-storage items. Some are needed for the site to work. The rest measure how Clarity is read, and in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland they are used only if you say yes. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. More on what we do with data is in the privacy policy.
Strictly necessary
These make sign-in, security and your settings work, so they need no consent.

Measurement
These help us see which pages work and which are hard to read. With your consent we may also record sessions (clicks, scrolling and page changes, with what you type masked). Without consent, or if your browser sends Global Privacy Control, the analytics ID is kept in memory only and forgotten when you leave the page, layout versions last only for the tab, and nothing is recorded.
- ph_…_posthog (local and session storage)
- An anonymous analytics ID and the current visit, so pages viewed in one visit are counted as one reader (PostHog).
- Lasts: Until you clear it
- today-exp-*
- Which version of a page layout you were shown, so it stays the same between visits and we can compare versions.
- Lasts: Until you clear it
Other sites
Story images are often loaded from the publisher that ran them. That publisher’s server, or its network provider, may set its own cookies when the image loads (for example a Cloudflare __cf_bm cookie on the publisher’s domain). We do not control or read those cookies; your browser’s third-party cookie settings apply to them.
Changing your choice
Change your measurement choice at any time with Privacy choices, here or in the footer of any page. You can also clear site data in your browser settings, which resets everything above.
