Japan's FSA asked banks and crypto exchanges to swap photographed-ID checks for IC-chip reading now, ahead of an April 1, 2027 deadline. The request follows a Times Car breach of about 1.6 million license images, Cryptopolitan reported, and leaves each firm to decide whether to pay for the switch this year or wait for the law.

Green Dot will cut off Apple Cash reloads for unverified users on Nov. 9

Green Dot Bank will bar unverified Apple Cash users from reloading balances starting Nov. 9 and is keeping its 2024 ban on crypto transactions. Any crypto opening in Apple's wallet would have to come through its bank partners, and the banks behind both Apple Cash and Apple Card are changing.
