Apple's Home Collection brings LG cameras from £179.95 to the UK in December

Apple's Home Collection, developed with LG and Schneider Electric, reaches the UK in December with four cameras at £179.95 to £349.95, T3 reported. T3 lists every product under an LG or Schneider Electric name. The range is co-developed gear for Apple Home.

What happened

  • The LG Video Doorbell Wired pairs a 2.5K front camera with a Full HD downward camera for packages, plus a spotlight and a chime that plays through HomeView, HomePod or HomePod mini.
  • The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock uses Ultra Wideband to unlock for a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch with a home key, with a PIN pad and a hidden key slot as other ways in.
  • Both thermostats and their sensors support Matter and are designed for DIY installation.
  • Apple announced the range alongside its new HomeView hub, Apple TV 4K and an upgraded HomePod mini.

Why it matters

  • constraint T3 describes the Schneider thermostat's cleaner, lower-cost scheduling only for the contiguous US and compatible utility plans. A UK buyer has no stated basis for expecting it.
  • contradiction T3's summary counts four cameras plus a doorbell, but its itemised list holds four camera products with the doorbell among them. Which camera count is right depends on which T3 line a buyer trusts.
  • decision Sensors work with either company's thermostat. Thermostat and sensor are two separate purchases to price once numbers appear.

A household that wants every camera in the Home Collection on its door and walls can add up the bill today, because UK availability starts in December [3]. The doorbell is £229.95 [5], the floodlight £349.95 [6], the outdoor plug-in £279.95 [7] and the indoor plug-in £179.95 [8]. Added together that is £1,039.80 for four devices [17].

Every entry in T3's guide is named for LG or Schneider Electric: the LG Video Doorbell Wired, for example, and the Schneider Electric Smart Thermostat [16]. The guide does not say whether Apple's name also appears on the hardware [20]. T3 says Apple announced the range [1], and what it then describes is gear designed to work with Apple Home [2].

The other half of the range has no price. T3 reports that pricing for the LG Smart Deadbolt Lock has not been announced and writes that it is possible the lock may launch in the US or Korea first [10]. Apple has not confirmed a price for the LG Smart Thermostat, and T3 says it may have similar availability to the lock [11]. The Schneider Electric thermostat and the sensors have no announced prices either [12][13]. T3's summary says UK prices are confirmed "for selected devices" [3], and the four priced camera products are that selection [19].

For the person who signs off the order, we'd sort each item on two questions: whether it has a UK price and date, and whether its main benefit sits inside the box. The floodlight, outdoor and indoor cameras are priced, and their features are night vision, floodlights and a tilting lens [6][7][8]. The doorbell is priced, but its chime relies on Apple HomeView, HomePod or HomePod mini [4]. The lock has no price and depends on an iPhone or Apple Watch for hands-free entry [9]. The thermostats and sensors have no price until a number appears [12][13].

We'd order the priced cameras now and hold everything else until a UK price and date exist. The tradeoff is a house that is half automated in December, with cameras installed and the door and heating unchanged.

What to watch

  • A UK price and date for the LG Smart Deadbolt Lock, since T3 says the US or Korea may come first.
  • Prices for the LG and Schneider Electric thermostats and the sensors, none of which has been announced.
  • Whether UK December listings show Apple's name on the products or only LG and Schneider Electric.
