What happened

  • On Oct. 12 ZRO traded near $2.29 on Binance after touching $2.483, which left it under daily resistance at $2.344.
  • CoinGecko data showed ZRO up 23.80% over seven days, with market capitalization near $940 million.
  • Analyst Crypto With Gopal flagged $2.50 as resistance and said a break below $2.00 could open a decline toward $1.20.

Why it matters

  • constraint The schedule fixes the date and the token count but not the sales, so the first usable evidence of supply pressure is volume and price after Oct. 20.
  • exposure Leveraged positions with liquidation levels at $2.21, $2.24 and $2.28 to $2.29 sit directly under the $2.29 price, so a modest sell-off would reach them first.
  • contradiction The two crypto.news pieces price the same Oct. 12 session at $2.29 and $2.37, so the release is worth $56.0 million on the second price against $54.1 million on the first.

Against supply the release is small. The second crypto.news article puts circulating supply near 400 million tokens [5], and 23.63 million is 5.9% of that [1][20], so the two pieces agree on size. Against trading it is a third: the CoinGecko snapshot has 24-hour volume at $158.67 million [11], and the $54.1 million release is 34% of it [18]. That is a ceiling, since it assumes every recipient sells everything on one day.

ZRO has gained about 129% since the roughly $1 of September [19]. Strategic partners receive 55% of the release [22], and each of those tokens now fetches more than twice September's price. We think the price gain is a better reason to expect some selling than the 5.92% is. The counter-thesis is that a listed date is already in the price: DefiLlama lists it [1], and ZRO had rallied through the week before [10].

Eight days separate the Oct. 12 prices from the unlock [23], and the sources leave three paths open. Recipients hold, and price works toward $2.50, where the CoinGlass heatmap showed an overhead cluster of liquidations [9]. The market has absorbed the date, and price stays near $2.29. Or selling arrives, and ZRO falls to the $2.09 to $2.10 area where the 4-hour Supertrend and the daily low overlap [8].

Our view is that the unlock is a weak test of supply pressure, or rather a test with two variables moving at once. The daily RSI was 74.43 against the conventional overbought line of 70 [13], and the analyst who flagged $2.00 also read a rising wedge on the daily chart [16]. A pullback after Oct. 20 would arrive with a technical explanation already written. crypto.news itself said the available trading data does not establish a single cause for the rally [15].

A drop that starts on Oct. 20 itself, on volume well above the $158.67 million snapshot and with RSI already back under 70, would prove us wrong. It would be hard to attribute to anything else.

What to watch

  • Whether ZRO holds the $2.09 to $2.10 area, where the 4-hour Supertrend and the Oct. 12 daily low overlap, as Oct. 20 approaches.
  • Daily RSI: a fall back under 70 before the unlock would make any later drop easier to attribute to supply.
  • 24-hour volume on and after Oct. 20 against the $158.67 million snapshot, which shows how much of the release met buyers.
