Apple's iPhone 18 Pro storage tiers rose five times as much as its base price

Pre-orders open on Saturday, September 12, and phones ship on the 18th ^[3]. That leaves six days for whoever signs the purchase order to settle the line that moved by more than $100, which is the storage tier.

Run it on 250 handsets. If the configuration your fleet deploys is one of the tiers that took the full $500, the order costs $125,000 more than the equivalent order a year ago ^[15]. MacRumors did not specify which configurations took the full increase. The foldable iPhone Duo's own price list carries a $1,200 storage spread inside one product: $1,999 for 256GB, $3,199 for 2TB ^[6][17].

Teams talk about storage as headroom, then buy a tier up because somebody ran out last time. The purchase order commits that money before anyone opens the per-device storage utilisation report in their MDM console.

What the extra $100 buys, on the company's numbers, is a 2nm A20 Pro that MacRumors says delivers up to 40 percent faster sustained performance, helped by a vapor chamber three times larger than before ^[7]. The claim a fleet can audit for itself is battery: up to 24 hours of typical use on the Pro, which matches last year's Pro Max, and up to 30 hours on the new Pro Max, in what Apple calls its "biggest generational battery life leap ever" ^[8]. Check that against your mid-shift charging tickets.

The camera is where a workflow can justify the Pro premium. The 48-megapixel main sensor gets a variable aperture from f/1.48 to f/4.0, and new Pro Controls add manual aperture, shutter speed and white balance ^[10]. Field teams shooting for claims files and inspection reports will use manual aperture and shutter, while most office fleets will leave both on auto.

On recurring cost, AppleCare One Family covers every eligible device across up to six Family Sharing members in the U.S. for $49.99 per month, or $599.88 a year ^[11][16].

Two axes decide this, and both are answerable from records you already hold: whether the work needs manual camera control or the faster chip, and whether any cohort of your fleet has ever filled the tier you bought for it. Two noes send the order down the lineup at base storage. A yes on the first alone puts you on the Pro at 256GB, the one Pro configuration that took the smallest increase this year ^[19].
