Mophie's PowerStation Plus bets a $29.95 floor and a fixed cable beat being small
Four banks, two capacities, an attached USB-C cable on each, and a ladder where $39.95 buys either double the cells or a braided finish. Smallest is no longer the pitch.
The Product Desk

What happened
- Mophie has launched four PowerStation Plus banks, split into Standard and Signature lines, each offered at 5000mAh and 10000mAh.
- Amazon pricing runs $29.95 for the 5K Standard, $39.95 for both the 10K Standard and the 5K Signature, and $59.95 for the 10K Signature.
- Only the 10K Signature ships with two braided cables and a second USB-C port, enough for three devices at once.
Why it matters
- decision At the $39.95 rung, Mophie makes its own materials compete with its own cells, so a buyer has to decide whether a braided cable and finish are worth as much as doubling capacity.
- constraint A connector fixed outside the shell means the cable, not the cells, tends to set how long the unit stays useful, and there is nothing to pull it back in when it starts to fray.
- contradiction Mophie concedes it is not building the smallest bank, yet the same hands-on's accessory picks lead with an ultra-slim magnetic pack, which suggests the size argument has not been retired at all.
- precedent A carry-on claim with no certification or watt-hour figure behind it sets a low bar for how the rest of the category will talk about fire risk in its listings.
The price ladder is where the argument actually sits. Two of the four models list at the same $39.95: the 10K Standard and the 5K Signature [10]. Ten dollars above the entry price buys either twice the capacity or a braided cable and a better finish on an identical footprint [14][5]. At the top of the range that finish premium is twenty dollars, since the 10K Signature is $59.95 [15]. Read honestly, the ladder prices materials against cells.
The per-charge number is less flattering than the headline. Mophie's 5K does about one iPhone 17 Pro refill and the 10K does two [2], which puts the $29.95 unit near $30 a refill and the $39.95 unit near $20, roughly a third less [13]. The cheapest thing in the lineup is the worst value in it. That is ordinary for capacity tiers, and it is also why a $29.95 opening price does more work in a listing than in a spreadsheet.
The cable is the actual positioning claim. It runs along the side of the bank and slides out when needed, and it does not retract [6]. Nothing pulls the connector back into the housing, so it lives outside the shell for the life of the product, in the pocket where 9to5Mac says these are meant to ride [8]. Three of the four models carry exactly one [7]. Only the 10K Signature gets two braided cables plus a second USB-C port, which is what takes it to three devices at once [7]. Output is 20W through the USB-C port, and that same port is how the bank refills itself [1].
The size concession is Mophie's, not a reviewer's gripe. The hands-on states plainly that these are not the smallest banks available, only that they are pocketable rather than chunky, and that the price is what makes them worth buying [8][11]. The same article's list of the author's favourite Apple accessories opens with Anker's Ultra-Slim MagSafe Battery Pack [12]. Whatever the PowerStation Plus argues, the recommendation printed beside it still runs on thinness and magnets, and nothing in the write-up describes magnetic attachment or wireless output on these [3].
The carry-on line needs more than it has. 9to5Mac reports that Mophie engineered the banks to be airline carry-on friendly in light of recent battery bank fires [16], and names no certification or watt-hour rating [17]. Watt-hours are what airlines enforce against. Until one is published, carry-on friendly is a statement of design intent.
What rivals have to answer is not the 5K at $29.95. It is a 10K at $39.95 with the cable already attached [10], which makes a separately purchased cable look like a line item a buyer can delete.
What to watch
- Whether Mophie publishes a warranty or replacement path for the integrated cable, the single wear point on three of the four models.
- Whether any certification, standard or watt-hour rating is named to back the airline carry-on claim.
- Whether $39.95 for a 10K with an attached cable holds at street level or gets undercut, which resets the comparison Mophie is inviting.

Each Mophie PowerStation Plus supports 20W of power output through the USB-C port, and that same port is used to recharge the bank.
- [2]
The 5K versions can do about one iPhone 17 Pro recharge, while the 10K versions can fully recharge an iPhone 17 Pro twice.
- [3]
The 9to5Mac hands-on describes only wired 20W USB-C charging for the PowerStation Plus and does not mention magnetic attachment or wireless output.
- [4]
Mophie debuted four new power banks for the iPhone under the PowerStation Plus name, in Standard and Signature variants, each offered with 5000mAh and 10000mAh capacity options.
- [5]
The Standard and Signature versions come in the same footprints; the Signature version has a nicer finish and comes with braided cables.
- [6]
All four versions include integrated USB-C cables for charging, but the cables are not retractable; the cable is integrated on the side of the bank and slides out of place when needed.
- [7]
The lower three variants of the PowerStation Plus come with one built-in cable, while the Signature 10K has two braided cables and an additional USB-C port, allowing up to three devices to charge at once.
- [8]
9to5Mac's hands-on says the banks are not the smallest on the market but are not chunky like many others, making them suitable for a pocket rather than a backpack.
- [10]
On Amazon the lineup is priced at $29.95 for the 5K Standard Series, $39.95 for the 10K Standard Series, $39.95 for the 5K Signature Series and $59.95 for the 10K Signature Series.
- [11]
9to5Mac's hands-on concludes that although the banks are by no means the smallest available, they hit a price point that makes them worthwhile.
- [12]
The same 9to5Mac hands-on lists the author's favourite Apple accessory recommendations, beginning with the Anker Ultra-Slim MagSafe Battery Pack.
- [13]
Per iPhone 17 Pro recharge, the 5K Standard costs $29.95 and the 10K Standard about $19.98, roughly a third less.
- [14]
Within the lineup, ten dollars above the $29.95 entry price buys either double the capacity (10K Standard at $39.95) or the Signature finish and braided cable at the same 5000mAh (5K Signature at $39.95).
- [15]
The Signature premium doubles with capacity: $10 at 5000mAh and $20 at 10000mAh.
- [16]
9to5Mac reports that Mophie engineered the banks to be airline carry-on friendly, in light of recent battery bank fires.
- [17]
The 9to5Mac hands-on attributes the carry-on friendliness to Mophie's engineering and names no certification or watt-hour rating.
