Binance weighs Hong Kong, Korean, Taiwanese and Brazilian stocks for its 300 million users

Binance is considering offering exposure to Hong Kong, South Korean, Taiwanese and Brazilian stocks, co-CEO Richard Teng told Fortune. Tokenized stocks total $3 billion worldwide against $34 trillion traded on Binance in the previous year, Cryptobriefing reported.

Key figures: tokenized stocks on BNB Chain are worth roughly $1 billion, out of a global on-chain value that had crossed $3 billion by September 2026. That BNB Chain total is spread across 1.8 million holders.

What happened

  • Binance introduced trading in tokenized US stocks and commodity derivatives this year, plus pre-IPO perpetual futures settled in USDT that let traders speculate on private companies such as Anthropic.
  • In June 2026 it also opened direct trading in more than 7,000 US stocks and ETFs for users outside the US and launched bStocks, tokenized equities on BNB Chain, Cryptobriefing reported.
  • Cryptobriefing noted that no confirmed plans exist yet for Hong Kong, South Korean, Taiwanese or Brazilian equities.
  • Coinbase posted a net loss of $359.5 million in Q2 2026, its third consecutive quarterly loss, as transaction revenue declined.

Why it matters

  • contradiction Teng's stated reason is user requests for local top-10 names, while Fortune attributes the shift to the price slump. Only the second theory has a loss figure attached, and it is Coinbase's, not Binance's.
  • constraint Cryptobriefing expects regulatory responses in each jurisdiction to shape the timeline as much as user demand does. Teng said institutions want "clear rules and regulations they can operate within."
  • precedent The four-market list would be the only non-US equity plan in these reports: OKX's announced shares are in US companies and Binance's live products are US stocks.

"We are weatherproofing ourselves," Teng said [2]. Cryptobriefing described him as framing the move as defensive as much as ambitious [8]. The only comparison in these reports is Coinbase, which turned on stock trading, perpetual futures and prediction markets last December [10]; neither report shows what those lines have earned in the quarters since.

Scale is easier to check than motive. Divide the roughly $1 billion of tokenized stock on BNB Chain by its 1.8 million holders [12] and the average position is about $556 [14]. Divide Binance's $34 trillion of volume by its 300 million users [13] and the average user traded about $113,000 [16]. One figure is a balance and the other a year of turnover, and neither is revenue, so the comparison is loose. The gap is still wide: all tokenized stocks worldwide equal 0.0088% of that volume [15], and BNB Chain holds a third of them [17].

We see three ways this goes. The plan stays at "considering", it ships as tokens on BNB Chain, or it ships as direct trading, the route Binance took with US stocks in June [7]. In our view the second or third is likelier than the first, because the demand Teng describes is specific. He told Fortune: "A lot of our users say: 'Hey, I want to have exposure to, let's say, the top 10 Hong Kong stocks, top 10 Korean counters, top 10 Taiwanese, Brazilian counters.' We're looking at what our users demand and giving them that." [3]

The counter-thesis is that a request relayed at a conference is not an order book. The nearest hard evidence of demand is Cryptobriefing's figure that about 40% of volume in certain stock-referenced products trades outside traditional market hours, with Asian traders playing a notable role [20]. We would be wrong if the first launch draws mostly existing coin traders moving balances, or if crypto prices recover and the plan is dropped; the second outcome would show the slump was the driver.

What to watch

  • Whether Binance moves from "considering" to an announcement, and which of the four markets goes first.
  • Whether any launch arrives as tokenized products on BNB Chain or as direct trading like the June US stock rollout.
  • Whether Coinbase's next quarterly results show transaction revenue stabilising with its stock and derivatives lines live.
