What happened

  • The departing staff receive what Savarese calls substantial separation packages.
  • Airtable says its customer-facing organization was not affected and that customers' plan, price and service offering stay as they are.
  • A small Speedy Squad formed to clear builders' most common requests says it shipped more than 30 improvements in three weeks.
  • That squad moves into a new Core team under long-time Airtable member Akshar Patel, which commits to a designated sprint every month.
  • Savarese names three areas for investment: core improvements, AI that works alongside automations, and centralized account-level control.

Why it matters

  • What it limits constraint The price and plan assurance describes the present service and carries no stated term, so what Airtable costs in 2027 is still open.
  • Who's exposed exposure Features Airtable will soon present at Airspace were built by people now leaving, so the first showcase under new ownership depends on a handover.
  • Who has to decide decision Teams running critical or heavy operations on Airtable are the ones the performance pledge targets, and they must decide whether to add load before any results exist.

The Speedy Squad's rate is the first measurable output under the new structure. It works out to more than 10 improvements a week on average [17]. The examples Savarese gave are higher automation limits, a new "delete record" action for automations and granular edit permissions on list pages [8]. He wrote that the most common builder requests were for "unglamorous updates and improvements that make Airtable better to use every day" [9]. Fixes of that size show speed on a backlog. In our view they do not yet show capacity for the AI and platform work the roadmap also promises.

The company's case for a smaller team is a general one. Savarese wrote that Bending Spoons has "seen firsthand how smaller, faster-moving teams with streamlined responsibilities can have an outsized impact" [6]. That is a claim about other products. At Airtable it is carried out by engineers, product managers and designers embedded from across the Bending Spoons portfolio, who are already shipping the first improvements [7].

The 2027 platform is a stated vision: customers bringing their teams, data, workflows and agents together in one place [12]. Savarese said the focus for the rest of 2026 and much of 2027 came from studying the product and speaking with customers, builders, account admins and partners [14]. The post does not include a headcount or dated 2027 deliverables, and the text available ends partway through the list of Core team work.

The sequencing runs in two steps. This quarter, a team choosing how much to build on Airtable has a vision, a price statement and the squad's early fixes to go on. Next quarter, the monthly sprint will have run several times [10], and the record will show whether the promised account-level controls, including better visibility over AI credits consumption and data lineage, have started to appear [13]. Until then, the unified platform is the new product lead's own description of his plan [12].

What to watch

  • Whether the Core team's monthly sprint ships on schedule through the next quarter.
  • Whether the Airspace presentation shows the departing team's features working under new ownership.
  • Whether account-level controls such as AI credits visibility and data lineage appear before 2027.
