Laser-based remote sensing technology that measures distances to map terrain, vegetation, and objects, used in autonomous vehicles, forestry, and surveying.
A Cambridge-led team mapped every stem across 569 square kilometres of the Cairngorms and found 2.65 million under five metres, a baseline precise enough to audit restoration targets against even though one flight cannot date the trees.
