Whale inflows rose back above September's level CryptoQuant's 30-day measure of XRP whale transfers into Binance, against September levels as reported by Bitcoin News and Crypto Briefing.

Key figures: 30-day XRP whale inflows to Binance reached 1.669 billion XRP in mid-October, per CryptoQuant data. Bitcoin News put September's level at approximately 1.65 billion XRP before it retreated. Crypto Briefing put the mid-September peak at around 1.6 billion XRP, then a six-month high.

What happened

  • Crypto Briefing reported XRP at about $1.31 on October 15, down roughly 5% over the previous 24 hours.
  • XRP Insights counted about 22.06 billion XRP in attributed exchange wallets on October 15, led by Upbit at 6.44 billion and Coinbase at 5.84 billion, with Binance third at 2.76 billion.
  • Binance recorded the largest weekly increase among the leading exchanges, adding about 54.6 million XRP, while the broader sample rose roughly 84 million XRP between October 13 and 15.
  • Bitcoin News attributes to Arab Chain a caution that rising Binance deposits do not necessarily mean holders are preparing to sell.

Why it matters

  • What doesn't add up contradiction The two publishers put September's level at different figures, so the margin behind the seven-month high depends on whose number is used and is small on either.
  • What it limits constraint Exchange balances include customer custody, wrapped-token reserves and operational funds, and unidentified wallets are excluded, so no deposit total converts cleanly into sell-side inventory.
  • Who has to decide decision Anyone sizing a position on the inflow figure has to pick a confirming signal, because a deposit can be a sale, a reallocation, liquidity management or derivatives collateral.
  • Who's exposed exposure The ETF bid is the cushion under the price, and the first week of net outflows would end a streak that has run through choppy trading.

We think the figure records how much XRP moved and tells us little about whether it will be sold. That view fails in three ways: the deposits get sold into a falling market, the ETF bid stalls, or Binance's net balance starts to climb much faster than it has.

The metric adds up deposits from large wallets over a rolling 30 days [1], so it is a gross figure, and the balance data that would show net supply is a different kind of number. Binance's tracked wallets hold 2.76 billion XRP [10]. The 30-day deposits equal about 60% of that (or rather, of what the dataset can see, since unidentified wallets fall outside it) [15][12], yet the tracked balance rose 54.6 million XRP in the week, which is 3.3% of the 30-day total [11][16]. The windows differ, so the ratio is crude. The sources do not include Binance's balance change over the full 30 days, the figure that would settle it.

On the caution itself, Bitcoin News credits it to Arab Chain [7], but the one sentence it quotes from CryptoQuant points toward selling risk. CryptoQuant, citing Arab Chain's research, said "Increased whale inflows to centralized exchanges can increase the amount of XRP available for trading, potentially raising the risk of selling pressure" [6]. The benign explanations come from Crypto Briefing, which lists wallet reallocations, liquidity management and collateral for derivatives positions [5]. Crypto Briefing also says the inflows reliably show more XRP sitting on Binance that can move quickly in either direction [8].

The offset is the ETF bid. Inflows to US spot XRP ETFs over their 13 straight weeks [13] average about $138 million a week [17]. Valued at Bitcoin News' $1.33 a token [4], the deposits would take about 16 weeks of that buying to absorb if every token were sold [18]. The comparison sets 30 days of gross deposits against 13 weeks of net purchases, so it overstates the burden; it is a ceiling. The latest daily print is the soft spot: about $740,000 on October 14 [14] is 2.7% of the weekly average spread over five trading days [19].

The "seven-month high" is also a thinner margin than it sounds, because the two sources put September's level differently. Bitcoin News says the metric reached about 1.65 billion XRP then [20]. Crypto Briefing puts the mid-September peak near 1.6 billion and calls it a six-month high at the time [21]. October's reading is therefore 19 million XRP, or 1.2%, above one figure [23] and 69 million XRP, or 4.3%, above the other [24]. Crypto Briefing adds that the September peak did not, on its own, settle the token's direction [22].

What to watch

  • Binance's net XRP balance in the next XRP Insights update, against the 54.6 million XRP it added in the latest week.
  • Weekly US spot XRP ETF flows, where one net-outflow week would end the 13-week streak.
  • Whether the 30-day Binance whale inflow holds above the September level or retreats as it did after that peak.
