Claude now sits behind Atlas, Agentforce and Slack by default, with a Bedrock path inside the Trust Boundary for regulated buyers. The dependency arrives with the product.

Salesforce's expected token spend of about $300mn this year [1] works out at roughly 6% of the value of the stake it holds in Anthropic [18]. It is buying inference and holding equity in the company selling it, which reads comfortably while both sides are happy and reads differently at a renewal.
The commitment window is long. The plugin is in pilot, open beta is due in September, and further prebuilt skills are promised for late 2026 [11]. A buyer sizing agent volumes across that stretch is planning around a reasoning layer whose cost basis and release cadence sit with a company it has no contract with.
What each side gets is stated plainly enough. Dario Amodei described customers pointing Claude at the information and business context they have been building in Salesforce for decades [16], and TNW's read is that Anthropic's return here is distribution, given how much daily enterprise sales and support work already runs through Salesforce and Slack [17]. Marc Benioff's framing is the other half: trusted data, workflows and governance, wrapped in an interface that "thinks, reasons, and acts" [15]. Governance is the load-bearing word, because as TNW puts it, an agent that can read a pipeline is a demo, while one that can update it needs permissions, an audit trail, and an administrator able to revoke it [20].
The only performance figure offered is internal: 8.1 million annualised hours of productivity from Slackbot at Salesforce itself, which the company says has doubled quarter on quarter [7]. No definition of a productivity hour is given and no outside party is counting. A number that doubles every quarter from a standing start is mostly describing rollout.
Salesforce is not the first large vendor to make Claude a default; what TNW singles out is the breadth, with the reasoning engine, the agent builder and the messaging product going in one move [19]. That breadth is also what makes the position hard to walk back. Separate integrations can be unwound one at a time; a default across all of them, plus a governed write path into pipelines from a third party's interface [9], is a supplier relationship whose exit cost is measured in re-certification rather than configuration. Salesforce staff have already raised the point internally about the Claude Tag in Slack, and TNW frames it the same way: making a supplier's model the default across the product line, and your product a feature of theirs, is a deep bet on that supplier remaining a partner [14].
Ranked by verification strength, evidence, and original report placement.
Salesforce expects to spend around $300mn on Anthropic tokens this year.
Salesforce holds a stake in Anthropic now valued at about $5bn.
Claude is now the reasoning model behind Salesforce's Atlas Reasoning Engine, powers Agentforce Vibes and Agentforce Coworker by default, and is available in Agent Builder, all live today.
Salesforce and Anthropic announced an expanded partnership called Claudeforce, which puts Claude at the centre of Salesforce's agent products and puts Salesforce inside Claude as a plugin.
Claude can be accessed through Amazon Bedrock inside what Salesforce calls its Trust Boundary, which the article describes as the arrangement banks and healthcare customers need before they will let a model near their records.
Claude becomes the default model in Slack as well, powering Slackbot, the Claude Tag and Slack Code.

Evidence, demonstrated adoption, hype gap, incentives, and confidence are assessed independently, each on its own current evidence. How these are measured.
Single-publisher account of a vendor announcement
Every factual claim rests on one article relaying Salesforce and Anthropic statements: specific surfaces, skill counts, deployment paths and timing are concrete and checkable in product, but the spend, stake, and productivity figures are first-party and no independent measurement, customer, or benchmark appears anywhere in the cluster.
Defaults live in shipping products, plugin still in pilot
Claude is stated as live and default across Atlas, two Agentforce products and three Slack features, backed by a ~$300mn expected annual token spend that implies existing production consumption. Against that, the reverse-direction plugin is only in pilot with a September beta, no external customer deployments are named, and the only usage metric is Salesforce's own internal Slackbot figure.
Shipping substance, but unverifiable headline numbers
The concrete product changes appear genuinely shipped, which limits overstatement. The gap comes from an unauditable 8.1 million annualised hours claim presented as evidence the strategy is working, executive framing about an interface that 'thinks, reasons, and acts', a 37-skill plugin still in pilot, and no pricing for any component - all of which run ahead of what the cluster can substantiate.
Both principals are financially entangled in the narrative
Salesforce holds a stake in Anthropic valued at about $5bn and is a ~$300mn-a-year Anthropic customer, so it benefits from Claude being seen as the enterprise default; Anthropic gains distribution across a very large share of enterprise sales and support work. All quantitative claims in the cluster originate with these two parties, and the article itself flags the supplier-dependency question rather than resolving it.
Clear announcement detail, no corroboration
Confidence is limited by a single publisher and wholly first-party numbers, but raised by the specificity and falsifiability of the product claims - named surfaces described as live, a stated skill count, an explicit Bedrock/Trust Boundary path and dated milestones - which would be quickly contradicted if wrong.
