The fund and its strategy are unchanged, so what the tokenized share class buys is a second route to buyers, with Citi running the register and an SFC-licensed venue owning the client relationship. Exchange trading is still future tense.

The portfolio itself did not change [4]. Premiums from selling calls on Hang Seng China Enterprises constituents still fund the payout [12], the fund is still the one that introduced covered calls to the Hong Kong market [13], and the only new machinery sits between the fund and the buyer. Thirty months separate the February 2024 launch from the 27 August share class [11], which is long enough to say the product was proven before the pipe was attached to it.
What got bought, in both directions, is access. A manager cannot conjure a transfer agency, and the registration and share-transfer work now runs through a servicer that was already doing custody and administration on the same fund [7]; a venue holding a Securities and Futures Commission licence to face institutional and retail money holds a client list a fund's existing sales chain does not fully overlap [8]. The dual denomination, one class in Hong Kong dollars and one in US dollars [5], reads as an attempt to reach dollar money the local listing does not, on a product whose pitch is a monthly cheque [6]. Distribution is what the manager paid for here.
Two gaps keep me from calling this a working channel yet. The tense in the announcement is doing work: holding and transferring in token form are live, while trading through virtual asset platforms is described as possible going forward [9], so the venue half of the venue argument has not opened. And the report carries no assets figure for the token class, no fee, no volume [15], which is precisely the evidence needed to separate a distribution build from a demonstration.
This is probably wrong, but the number that settles it is how much of the token class balance arrives from money that was never going to open a brokerage account, rather than how quickly a transfer confirms. The counter-thesis, which I would weight roughly the same today, is that a token share class mostly re-papers holders who already own the ETF, in which case the manager has acquired an extra registration workflow [7] and the company line about extending innovation from products into the infrastructure [14] is the entirety of the return. Either way the allocation call is narrow and legible: Mirae is not building a venue and not pursuing its own retail-facing licence, it is renting one [8]. The register will show which it was.
Ranked by verification strength, evidence, and original report placement.
Mirae Asset Global Investments has tokenized a covered-call exchange-traded fund it manages in Hong Kong, the first time the asset manager has issued and distributed a tokenized version of one of its own funds.
The structure applies blockchain technology to an existing ETF, allowing fund shares to be held and transferred as digital tokens.
Mirae Asset Global Investments' Hong Kong unit introduced a tokenized share class for the Global X HSCEI Covered Call Active ETF on the 27th of the month, together with Citibank's local operation and digital asset platform OSL, in a report dated 30 August 2026 by en.sedaily.com.
The investment structure of the underlying fund and investors' rights remain unchanged, with digital technology applied to how holdings are kept and transferred.
Tokenized share classes were set up in both Hong Kong dollars and U.S. dollars.
The product is designed to target monthly distributions.

Evidence-backed comparisons of source perspectives and observed adoption signals. Read the methodology
Which Builder, Operator, and Investor concerns the observed source mix emphasized—not a truth score.
Evidence, demonstrated adoption, hype gap, incentives, and confidence are assessed independently, each on its own current evidence. How these are measured.
Precise, checkable, unchecked
Every fact traces to one report from Seoul Economic Daily's English edition, and that report leans on the industry and an unnamed Mirae official rather than a filing or a prospectus supplement. The details are the kind you can verify — a named date, two named counterparties, a named licensed venue — but nobody in our coverage has verified them, and neither Citi nor OSL nor the regulator is quoted confirming its part.
One class live, no users visible
Something genuinely went into production: two currency classes on a live fund, with a register keeper and a licensed distributor named. That is where the measurable adoption stops. There is no subscription figure, no holder count, and the venue trading that would generate observable activity is still promised rather than running.
Firsts stacked on an unchanged fund
The framing runs ahead of the substance by about a step. 'Innovation extended into the investment infrastructure' describes a change of registrar plumbing and a new sales channel for a fund whose holdings, strategy and investor rights are explicitly unchanged, and the tradability that gives tokenization its point has not arrived yet. The overstatement is in emphasis, not in fact — the firsts are narrowly worded and plausible.
Three parties, one message
Everyone with a voice here benefits from the story landing well: the manager gets a first, Citi gets a reference for extending fund services to token registers, and OSL gets proof that its SFC licence carries mainstream fund distribution. The one quoted human is an unnamed employee of the issuer, speaking in the register of a press release. No counterparty, competitor or regulator is present to price the claim differently.
Believable, thinly held
We are fairly confident about what was announced and by whom — the specifics are too concrete to be loose. We are much less confident about what it amounts to, because the two things that would settle that, take-up and a trading date, are absent, and a second outlet has yet to touch any of it.
