LeapXpert lets Webex users text clients on WhatsApp with every message screened and archived
LeapXpert and Cisco put screened, archived WhatsApp client chats inside Webex, an app used at about 300,000 organizations. Whether staff actually move client conversations off consumer apps is something only the archive will show.
The Product Desk

What happened
- Staff sign in with the Webex credentials they already have, so texting an outside WhatsApp contact from a desktop or phone needs no second login.
- WhatsApp is the first consumer network LeapXpert has brought into Webex, and the company says others will follow.
- The integration is live on the Webex App Hub and requires both a Webex license and a Leap Work account from LeapXpert.
- The launch comes just over three months after LeapXpert raised $180 million in a round led by Riverwood Capital, aimed first at financial services and government.

Why it matters
- cost Each employee who texts clients needs a Leap Work account on top of a Webex license, so rollout means a second vendor contract and a second account to provision for every user.
- exposure Screening inbound replies puts clients' own words under the firm's data-loss rules, so compliance teams will need a policy for handling a flagged message from a client.
- constraint Firms whose clients message on networks other than WhatsApp cannot bring those chats into Webex until LeapXpert ships the next network.
- decision Firms already running LeapXpert on Teams or Slack now choose by where their staff actually work, since LeapXpert holds the archive whichever app they pick.
The client conversation that compliance teams cannot see usually starts in an ordinary way. A client sends a relationship manager a WhatsApp message, and the manager replies in WhatsApp [2]. According to SiliconANGLE's report, Webex messaging has mostly run between colleagues at the same company, while employees' chats with clients tend to happen in consumer apps outside anything the employer controls [2].
Users reply wherever the client wrote. Avi Pardo, LeapXpert's co-founder and chief business officer, said clients picked messaging apps because that is where they want to be [9]. He said firms that cannot govern those conversations are "carrying risk they can't see" [10].
The two companies said the integration brings governed consumer messaging within reach of tens of millions of business users, a figure built on Webex's install base [7]. For now, one consumer network is live [3]. Data loss prevention screens every message in both directions, so a client's reply gets the same check as the employee's note [5]. LeapXpert keeps the complete conversation for archiving [6]. The report did not disclose a price or which record-keeping rules the archive is meant to satisfy [15].
The buyer is a compliance team at a firm that already runs Webex and has clients on WhatsApp. LeapXpert's customer list includes Lloyds Bank and SoftBank [13]. Cisco added compliance management and AI governance features to Webex in June [8]. The WhatsApp transcript, though, is held by LeapXpert [6]. For firms already running LeapXpert on Slack or Microsoft Teams, Webex is the fourth place the same setup works, counting LeapXpert's own chat app [16].
Message volume through the integration will climb the day a desk switches it on, and all it shows is that people tried it. Track coverage instead. Take the clients a desk knows it talks to on WhatsApp and check what share of them have conversations in LeapXpert's archive a month later. A rising share means staff moved the chats. A flat one means they went back to the consumer app.
Sort the decision on two axes: whether staff work in Webex, and whether the clients they need to reach use WhatsApp. Webex staff with WhatsApp clients should run a pilot on one desk and track archive coverage. I'd expect the tradeoff to show up in procurement, since each user needs a Leap Work account on top of the Webex license [14] and the client record sits with LeapXpert [6]. Webex staff with clients on another network have nothing to install yet, because WhatsApp is the only network so far [3]. Teams or Slack shops with WhatsApp clients are already covered by LeapXpert's existing integrations [11]. Firms in neither cell get nothing from this release.
What to watch
- LeapXpert naming the next consumer network it will bring into Webex after WhatsApp, and a date for it.
- A published price for the Leap Work account that Webex users need alongside their license.
- A bank or government customer reporting how much of its client WhatsApp traffic moved into the Webex integration.
