Coinbase and Deribit open weekend leverage in CoreWeave, Oracle and Dell to non-US traders

Coinbase and Deribit launched six USDC-settled equity perpetual futures on Oct. 14, giving non-US traders 24/7 leverage of up to 50x on some products. At 50x, a 2% move against a position erases its margin, according to CryptoBriefing.

Small chip moves could wipe out SOXS margin at 50x Price moves that can erase a trader's posted margin at 50x leverage, and how hard SOXS is built to move against chip stocks.

Key figures: a chip-stock move of roughly 0.67% could erase posted margin on SOXS, if 50x leverage applies to that product. A 2% adverse move can wipe out posted margin at 50x. SOXS is built to move 3x in the opposite direction of chip stocks.

What happened

  • The six tickers are CRWV, ORCL, SOXS, DELL, PLTR and SNXX, a mix of individual stocks and ETF-linked underlyings.
  • SOXS tracks the Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bear 3X Shares ETF, a fund built to move against chip stocks at triple the intensity.
  • With no expiry, funding payments hold each contract to its stock: longs pay shorts when the perpetual trades above the underlying, and shorts pay longs when it trades below.
  • Coinbase bought Deribit in August 2025 for approximately $2.9 billion, and the new markets sit on that acquisition.
  • Coinbase had already rolled out equity perpetuals in March and June 2026, so October is the third round this year.

Why it matters

  • exposure On SOXS, a triple-intensity inverse chip fund, a 2% margin cushion would be gone after roughly a 0.67% move in chip stocks, if 50x applies to that product.
  • constraint At 50x, margin is 2% of notional, so $1 billion of open positions would post only $20 million of USDC. The stablecoin demand the source credits to the launch is small beside the exposure.
  • decision Coinbase has aimed this product line at traders outside the United States. US persons are excluded for regulatory reasons and are left out for now.

On a Saturday the Oracle perpetual is the only live Oracle price, so a trader holding it is trading the market's guess at where the stock will open on Monday. Traditional exchanges keep business hours [5], and CryptoBriefing did not report how Coinbase and Deribit set a reference price while they are shut, or which products get 50x. Funding payments between longs and shorts keep the contract near the stock [7], and we presume the anchor they pull toward is the last close. A position held through the weekend at high leverage then meets Monday's opening gap in a single step.

Adding a ticker now costs little. Coinbase finished integrating the two platforms in early October [10], and CryptoBriefing reads the March, June and October rollouts as a sequence suggesting Coinbase intends to keep adding names [17]. We think the right frame is distribution: revenue depends on open interest, and there are no volume, open interest or fee figures to go on for any of the 2026 rollouts.

Volume may stay thin on all six, and "Everything Exchange", the label Coinbase puts on its ambition to unify trading across asset classes [18], would then describe a catalogue with little revenue behind it. Or a Monday gap liquidates leveraged positions in bulk and the venues' handling of losses gets tested. Or the US framework changes, which CryptoBriefing says could alter who gets access and how quickly [12].

Low open interest on these six contracts by the time of the next rollout, or no next rollout, would show the distribution view wrong.

What to watch

  • Open interest and volume on the six contracts, and whether Coinbase or Deribit publishes either.
  • Whether a fourth rollout adds new tickers after October.
  • How the venues set reference prices and handle liquidations during the first weekend the underlying stocks are closed.
