Business Central 29 stops SOAP integrations at the update until an administrator switches SOAP back on

All 10 finance and expense features in Microsoft's Business Central 29 are previews, according to CodeCore Dynamics' count of the 80-feature list. On update day the work is in integrations: SOAP calls to Microsoft pages stop until an admin switches SOAP back on, and Shopify customers must be on 29 by 31 December.

What happened

  • Microsoft stopped publishing release plans in September 2026, and the roadmap that replaced them drops the field that marked features an administrator must switch on.
  • Microsoft promises most 29.0 previews within 3 months, while past agent previews took 4 to 8 months to reach general availability, by CodeCore's count.
  • Microsoft Learn says report-definition changes are logged automatically, yet in a new 29.0 environment Change Log was off and a row-definition edit went unrecorded.

Compiled by The EngineerSomething wrong? How this is made

Why it matters

  • decision Teams with SOAP integrations into Business Central pages have to schedule the administrator's switch for update day or move those calls off SOAP before 29.0 arrives.
  • constraint With no switch-on flag on the roadmap, administrators have to find the 10 or so to 17 features a wave this size has historically needed them to enable by testing in a sandbox.
  • cost Spending $0.65 in credits to save about $1.20 of clerk time pays off only if nobody has to recheck the VAT, and in CodeCore's test someone would have had to.
  • exposure Finance teams that tell auditors report-definition edits are logged automatically could have gaps in that log while Change Log Setup stays off.

Ten of the wave's 12 public previews are finance and expense features [19]. All 14 reporting features are generally available [2]. CodeCore's own summary is that the finance changes usable on update day are in financial reporting and the Payables Agent [15]. By its count, past public previews that ran longer than 6 weeks reached general availability in a median of 2.2 months [11]. The Expense Agent is an agent, so I'd plan on the agent history before the median.

The old release plans flagged features an administrator had to switch on. Those features were 12 to 21 per cent of each plan [5]. At that share, a wave of 80 features would hold roughly 10 to 17 that need an administrator [17]. SOAP access to Microsoft pages is one of them [4]. Microsoft's launch videos also show 6 capabilities that appear on neither the feature list nor the roadmap, among them cross-environment master data management and Fabric mirroring, CodeCore wrote [13].

The Payables Agent is the finance feature with a price attached. CodeCore puts it at about $0.65 in Copilot Credits for a 3-line invoice [6]. It equates that to roughly 1 minute of a clerk paid $40 an hour [6]. The time its sandbox run saved is worth about $1.20 at that rate [18]. The test ran in a CRONUS International demo company on build 29.0.54011.55407 [12]. For the number to transfer, a real payables team's invoices would have to be as short as 3 lines and its tax lines would have to come out right. In the sandbox the tax did not [7].

The reporting work is careful engineering. A new Packages action prints several financial reports as one PDF, each with its own filters and dates [9]. CodeCore's package of 4 reports printed as 1 PDF of 6 pages [9]. Where-Used List on a G/L account now covers report definitions [10]. It found an account typed on its own into a totaling line. It missed 2900 and 2910, though both fall within the 2900..2990 range on that report's Cash line [10]. Every M-BALANCE line CodeCore checked uses ranges, and it names the new FactBox, which lists the accounts behind each totaling line, as the better check [10].

Printed documents stay as they are. A new environment starts without a theme, and according to Microsoft, none of the layouts it ships has a different default in this release [14].

What to watch

  • Whether Microsoft publishes which 29.0 features need an administrator to switch them on, the field the retired release plans used to carry.
  • Whether the Expense Agent and the other finance previews reach general availability inside the promised 3 months or follow the 4-to-8-month agent history.
  • Whether 29.1 delivers the more than 50 body layouts Microsoft's launch video promised across 29.0 and 29.1.
