The bank sees $125,000 reclaimed by late 2026 and a 2029 peak near $300,000. Its own multiple compresses along the way, which puts the weight on miner costs, and it cut Strategy's target to $350.

Run the model backwards and the price path turns into a cost forecast. Bernstein values Bitcoin as a multiple of the marginal cost of production, the estimated cost for the least efficient miners to mint new coins [7], and it assumes that multiple behaves as it did in previous four-year cycles [8]. At 1.4 times a $125,000 peak in 2025, the implied marginal cost is about $89,000 [9][1]. At 1.25 times $300,000 in 2029, it is $240,000 [2]. At 1.2 times $1 million in 2033, about $833,000 [3][3]. Between the 2025 and 2029 peaks, price rises 2.4 times while the implied cost of producing a coin rises 2.69 times [4]. The multiple works against the price here rather than for it, so the entire base case rests on miner economics getting far more expensive.
The two halves of the thesis also pull in opposite directions. The framework is keyed to the halving and divided into breakout, hype, drawdown and accumulation [6], which assumes the rhythm repeats. The explanation for the shallower fall is a changed buyer base [5], which assumes it does not. A 75% decline from $125,000 would have taken the price to roughly $31,250, about $31,000 a coin below the actual trough implied by Bernstein's own figures [12]. That is the size of the claim being made for institutional and corporate demand, and it rests on a single drawdown.
The near-term number is less comfortable than the headline. Using the report's own figures, a 50% fall from $125,000 puts the low near $62,500, and a 28% ten-day rebound puts the price near $80,000 [5][6]. Reclaiming $125,000 by late 2026 therefore means about 56% from there [7].
On the equity, Bernstein is more confident about the asset and less confident about its largest corporate owner. The MSTR target goes to $350 from $450, a 22% cut, on accelerated equity dilution and the revised cycle view [11][8], while Outperform stays. That target still sits 176% above Tuesday's $126.83 close [12][9]. The forecast also has Strategy selling around 7,000 BTC in 2026 [13], which is 0.83% of its 840,447 coins [10][11], before returning as a buyer if the STRC preferred recovers to around $100 from $97.15, under 3% away [14][10].
Put the two targets side by side and the leverage leaks: 176% for the equity against 275% for the coin from roughly $80,000 to $300,000 [13]. The horizons are not the same, so it is not a like-for-like comparison, but the direction of Bernstein's own arithmetic is that dilution taxes the proxy. Regime Intelligence's reading points the same way from a different angle, arguing Strategy's treasury is more exposed to a prolonged loss of capital-market access than to a crash, with roughly $1.76 billion in annual obligations to fund [15].
Ranked by verification strength, evidence, and original report placement.
Bernstein said Bitcoin gained 28% over the previous 10 days after falling about 50% from its October 2025 peak, a rebound it said could signal the end of the current bear cycle.
Bernstein said institutional investors and corporate Bitcoin buyers provided greater downside support during the latest cycle, contributing to a smaller drawdown than the 75% to 90% declines of previous cycles.
Bernstein's forecast is based on Bitcoin's historical four-year cycles, which it links to the halving, and it divides each cycle into four phases: breakout, hype, drawdown and accumulation.
Bernstein estimates Bitcoin's potential price by comparing it with the marginal cost of producing Bitcoin, the estimated cost for the least efficient miners to produce new coins.
Bernstein analysts said: "We assume that the price-to-marginal cost multiple will behave in a similar manner to previous 4-year cycles."
Under Bernstein's base case the price-to-marginal-cost multiple falls from 1.4 times at Bitcoin's $125,000 peak in 2025 to 1.25 times at a projected $300,000 peak in 2029 and about 1.2 times at $1 million in 2033.

Evidence-backed comparisons of source perspectives and observed adoption signals. Read the methodology
Which Builder, Operator, and Investor concerns the observed source mix emphasized—not a truth score.
Evidence, demonstrated adoption, hype gap, incentives, and confidence are assessed independently, each on its own current evidence. How these are measured.
Thin: one outlet's summary of an unpublished research note
Everything rests on a single crypto-native outlet's account of a Bernstein report it says it has seen; the underlying note, its miner cost curve, and its dilution assumptions are not available. Market prices (MSTR $126.83, STRC $97.15) are attributed to Yahoo Finance and are checkable, and the methodology is described clearly enough to audit arithmetically - which is how the multiple-compression implication surfaces. But the central load-bearing input, a ~2.69x rise in marginal production cost by 2029, has no supporting data in the source, and no second publisher or dissenting analyst corroborates any of it.
One large disclosed treasury, little else quantified
The concrete adoption evidence is narrow but real: a named corporate holder with 840,447 BTC (about 4% of maximum supply) and a disclosed ~7,000 BTC sale in 2026, plus a preferred-stock instrument (STRC) whose price gates further purchases. The broader claim that institutional investors and corporate buyers cushioned the drawdown is asserted without flow, ETF, or holder-count data, so aggregate institutional adoption cannot be scored from this material. Bernstein's forecasts themselves have no adoption dimension.
Headline targets outrun the evidence behind them
The publicised numbers - $300,000 in 2029, $500,000 bull case, about $1 million by 2033 - are presented as extrapolations of a four-year cycle framework whose central assumption is explicitly that the price-to-marginal-cost multiple repeats prior behaviour. Because the model compresses that multiple from 1.4x to 1.25x while price rises 2.4x, the call quietly requires mining to become roughly 2.7 times dearer, an input the source never evidences. The equity leg is more sober: the target was cut 22% on dilution, and the implied 176% MSTR upside is well below the 275% implied for Bitcoin. Overstatement is therefore in the forecast framing rather than the reported facts, which are precise and internally consistent.
Sell-side note on a rated stock, relayed by crypto-native media
Bernstein publishes an Outperform rating and price target on Strategy, so its Bitcoin cycle outlook and its equity recommendation are commercially linked - the same note that lifts the long-run Bitcoin path sustains a $350 target 176% above the market price. Strategy is itself the largest corporate holder, giving it a direct interest in a bullish cycle narrative and in conditions that let it 'go kinetic again' on purchases. The relaying outlet is a crypto-native publisher whose audience is long the asset class, and the article carries no disclosure of these alignments. Regime Intelligence's cited caution is the only countervailing voice.
Facts as reported are solid; the thesis is not testable here
Confidence is moderate. What the note says, and the market prices around it, are reported cleanly and the arithmetic implications are unambiguous, so the derived findings about multiple compression and the MSTR-versus-Bitcoin upside gap are firm. Confidence is capped by the single-publisher cluster, the unavailability of the underlying report, the absence of any independent view on miner cost trajectories, and the inherent unverifiability of price targets stretching to 2033.
