Korea's Cheongwang laser, now 90% local, runs at a quarter of HELIOS's peak power

South Korea's Hanwha Systems-built Cheongwang laser downed two of four drones at its public debut, at 10,000 to 20,000 won of electricity a shot. Its 30-kilowatt Block I is rated for small North Korean drones at two to three kilometres, a narrower job than the US and Chinese lasers it is measured against.

Korea's sixth and last Aegis destroyer closes a 19-year program led by HD Hyundai Heavy

South Korea launched the Daeho Kim Jong-seo at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' Ulsan yard, the sixth and last ship of its 19-year Aegis destroyer program. President Lee Jae-myung named nuclear-powered submarines as the Navy's next core asset, so the yard's next multi-year naval order depends on that pledge becoming a funded program.

Korea swaps grid access for curtailment to reopen Honam's frozen solar queue

Korea will let new solar plants connect past full grids in parts of Honam and Chungcheong from Oct. 1, raising line limits to 16 MW in exchange for curtailment. On the ministry's own solar output figures those limits rarely force a cut, so the risk developers have to price sits on Honam's saturated transmission network and in storage costs.
