Zetaris Cloud routes AI agents' queries to enterprise data where it already lives

Zetaris has launched a cloud harness that lets AI agents query enterprise data in place, citing cost savings of up to 67 percent at one customer. The figure is Zetaris' own before-and-after assessment, so buyers need their own numbers to know if it applies.

What happened

  • Zetaris says the harness reaches structured, unstructured and streaming data across cloud, on-premises and edge systems with no centralization project first.
  • Zetaris Cloud runs inside the customer's own cloud account, where the customer keeps control of the cluster, the keys and the infrastructure bill.
  • Co-founder and CEO Vinay Samuel started Zetaris in 2013 with Michael Cimino, after leadership roles the company links to Netezza, Greenplum and Vertica.
  • Zetaris' release dates its Open Agent Hackathon with SpaceXAI to October 22nd to 27th, but the organizer's event page lists October 15th to 20th.

Why it matters

  • exposure Agents query production systems directly, so any gap in the query-time access policy exposes live records instead of a curated copy.
  • cost Compute for agent queries bills to the buyer's own cloud account, so the savings claim can be checked against an invoice the buyer already receives.
  • decision Buyers weighing a federation layer against a central store need their own before-and-after pilot before the 67 percent figure can go into a cost case.

An agent's request reaches the harness over MCP, SQL or a programming interface [6]. The harness routes the query to the system that already holds the data, with no consolidated copy to build and maintain first [7]. Security policies and access controls apply as the agent queries [4]. The approach predates agents. The company began with an enterprise database and analytics platform, built, it says, to let organisations use data without moving it first [9].

Runtimewire names three questions that a live deployment raises and a demo on a prepared sample avoids: permissions, data freshness and inconsistent definitions across systems [8]. Querying in place answers freshness by design, since the agent reads the source system itself. Permissions rest on the query-time controls Zetaris describes [4]. Definitions are the hard one. Leaving data in place also leaves each system's idea of a customer or an order in place, and an agent that joins two systems inherits both. Before trusting a cross-system answer, I'd want to see how the harness reconciles them.

I think the deployment choice is the right default for software that reads production data. Because the service sits in the buyer's own cloud account, the team that already answers for the source systems also controls the layer that reads them [5].

So far, the case that querying in place costs less than copying rests on one assessment. The release footnotes its up-to-67-percent total-cost figure to an internal before-and-after comparison at an enterprise customer [11] [12]. The announcement does not describe the customer sample or the assessment method [13]. At the top of the range, that customer's costs fell to about a third of their earlier level [16]. The figure transfers to another buyer only if most of that buyer's current spend sits in the integration work and duplicate copies that Zetaris says querying in place removes [2]. I'd expect a shop that already runs a busy central warehouse to have less of that spend to cut.

Zetaris is also taking the harness to developers. It says it will headline the Open Agent Hackathon with SpaceXAI, pairing the harness with SpaceXAI's Grok Build [19]. The company's schedule and the organizer's sit a week apart [17]. Both windows run six days, so the 144 hours in Zetaris' release is the one number the two schedules agree on [18]. The expected turnout of more than 5,000 builders from over 100 countries [20] is a forecast [21]. Runtimewire points out that a hackathon can show how fast teams wire tools together, but it does not prove those connections will hold up to an enterprise's security and reliability demands once they are in production [15].

What to watch

  • Whether Zetaris publishes the method and customer sample behind the up-to-67-percent total-cost figure.
  • Which hackathon dates hold, October 15th to 20th or October 22nd to 27th, and how many of the forecast 5,000 builders actually take part.
  • Documentation on how the harness reconciles conflicting definitions when one agent query spans more than one source system.
