Samsung and SK Hynix will pay 10% more for every ASML EUV and DUV spare part from January 2027
ASML will raise prices 10% on every EUV and DUV spare part sold to Samsung and SK Hynix, starting with January 2027 deliveries. 2027 maintenance budgets need a line for it, even though neither source says how much it adds to a fab's operating cost.

ASML's revenue from services, parts and upgrades for equipment already installed at customer sites was 8.193 billion euros last year, 25% of total sales of 32.667 billion euros.

What happened
- ASML told both memory makers through its South Korean subsidiary in early September, and TheElec's industry sources say the increase was finalized after talks with their purchasing organizations.
- A blanket rise is unusual: ASML has historically repriced individual parts when raw material costs jumped or specific materials became hard to procure, according to TheElec's sources.
- The Information reported in July that ASML had told Chinese chipmakers and others of a 10% DUV equipment increase, with some accepting and TSMC reportedly opposing.
- Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron and Advanced Energy Industries have each said they have raised prices or are pursuing adjustments, on new or installed products.
Why it matters
- cost Memory makers pay the uplift on consumables bought regularly and on unplanned failure replacements, the harder of the two to budget.
- decision Planners must choose whether 2027 cost models carry the 10% on lithography parts alone or also a scenario for dearer new tools, since ASML is discussing equipment prices with major customers.
- precedent TheElec's industry sources say two of the largest memory buyers accepting a blanket rise gives other equipment and component suppliers a reference price.
- contradiction A Seeking Alpha analyst expects dearer parts to speed tool upgrades, yet TheElec reports new-tool prices are also likely to rise, so replacing old tools to escape parts costs may not be the cheaper route.
Sizing the hit starts with a ceiling, because that is the most the figures support. ASML's services, parts and upgrades business brought in 8.193 billion euros last year [4]. Ten percent of that is about 819 million euros [8] (a ceiling on the price effect alone, with volumes held at last year's level). If ASML's forecast of more than 30% growth this year holds [5], the base passes 10.65 billion euros [9] and 10% of it is roughly 1.07 billion euros [10]. Both numbers overstate what two Korean customers will pay, because the line includes services and upgrades as well as parts and covers installed tools at every customer. TheElec did not break out the Korean share.
In our view, the 10% belongs in 2027 lithography maintenance budgets now, or rather the 10% plus whatever volume growth adds on top, because the January 2027 start date [1] leaves 2026 untouched and prices every delivery after it higher. The counter-case is that parts are one line inside fab operating cost, and the sources do not say how large a line. If Samsung's or SK Hynix's own cost disclosures show lithography parts as a small share of cost of sales, 10% is a rounding item and the larger negotiation is over new tools.
TheElec quoted an industry official on the reason for the increase. "Prices have risen across the board for the components that make up these parts, but ASML also appears to be seeking a larger share of the profits its customers are making," the official said [15]. In our view the split matters for how long the uplift lasts: a pass-through of component costs can ease if those costs ease, while a bid for margin has no such trigger. TheElec's wider account is a supply shortage, with AI data center investment pushing memory makers and foundries to expand at once and giving suppliers leverage that buyers used to hold [7].
What to watch
- ASML's coming earnings report, where the Seeking Alpha author expects more detail on pricing plans and a better-than-expected Q4 guide.
- Whether ASML's equipment price talks with major customers conclude, and whether TSMC, reportedly opposed to the DUV increase, accepts.
- Whether Samsung or SK Hynix puts a figure on 2027 lithography parts cost, which would settle whether 10% is material.

ASML has traditionally adjusted prices for individual parts when raw material costs rose sharply or specific materials became difficult to procure; a blanket 10% increase is unusual.

Prices will rise for everything from consumable parts purchased regularly to major components replaced because of failures or performance degradation, which raises the cost of keeping the equipment operational.

Applied Materials said in August that prices had risen for both new and existing products; Tokyo Electron said in late July it was pursuing price adjustments, including for equipment already on the market; Advanced Energy Industries said it had raised prices for some product lines.

Suppliers now have greater leverage in negotiations than semiconductor makers, who in the past used purchasing power to demand lower prices; AI data center investment has prompted memory makers and foundries to expand capacity simultaneously, driving up orders for equipment and components.

10% of ASML's 8.193 billion euros installed-base revenue is about 819 million euros.
- [9]
Growth of more than 30% on 8.193 billion euros implies installed-base revenue above 10.65 billion euros this year.
- [10]
10% of 10.65 billion euros is roughly 1.07 billion euros.

ASML headquarters notified Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix of the proposed increase through its South Korean subsidiary in early September, and the increase was finalized after discussions with both companies' purchasing organizations.
- [12]
Prices for newly ordered ASML equipment are also likely to increase following the spare-parts hike, and the company is discussing equipment price increases with major customers.
- [13]
The Information reported in July that ASML had notified Chinese semiconductor manufacturers and other customers of a 10% increase in DUV equipment prices, with some customers accepting; TSMC, ASML's largest customer, was reportedly opposing the increase.

Industry observers expect ASML's decision to raise prices across the board, accepted by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, to strengthen the position of other semiconductor equipment and component suppliers seeking price increases.

"Prices have risen across the board for the components that make up these parts, but ASML also appears to be seeking a larger share of the profits its customers are making," an industry official said.

The across-the-board 10% increase is likely to incentivize faster lithography tool upgrades in the mid-term and generate higher installed-base revenue in the near term.

The Seeking Alpha author expects a better-than-expected Q4 guide and more detail on ASML's pricing plans from ASML's coming earnings report.
