Revolut's US credit cards and loans await full FDIC and Fed clearance, with a first-half 2027 banking target
Revolut, with more than 80 million customers, says its US offering will be at par with Amex and JPMorgan once it holds a full bank charter. Account features ship first, then cards and loans, with launch targeted for the first half of 2027.

What happened
- The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency gave Revolut conditional approval in early September to form a national bank.
- Bloomberg reported that the approval will eventually let Revolut reach Federal Reserve payment systems directly, take deposits insured to $250,000 per account, and offer personal loans and credit cards.
- Full clearance from the FDIC and the Federal Reserve is still required before the US bank can begin operating.
- Revolut's in-app assistant AIR is to browse the open internet and sites such as Amazon to complete purchases on a customer's behalf.
Why it matters
- constraint The rewards claim rests on Storonsky's own statement to Bloomberg TV and no published rate or fee, so it stays an intention until a card is priced against Amex and JPMorgan.
- decision Revolut is starting AIR testing in the UK in December and then moving to Europe, so the agentic half of the US pitch has no US test date.
- exposure In this design Revolut holds the payment credentials. That they stay inside its systems and are secure rests on Storonsky's description, and neither report cites an outside test.
Between the Oct. 9 report of Storonsky's Bloomberg TV interview [18] and the first half of 2027 [17] there are roughly three to nine months [21], and neither report dates the card step inside that window. Storonsky said the firm would roll out credit cards and loans once it receives a full banking charter [11]. On the product itself, "Our offering will be at par with Amex or JPMorgan Chase," Storonsky said [13].
Set the $115 billion valuation of the secondary share sale [5] against more than 80 million customers [4] and each customer carries at most $1,437.50 of it [15]. The company's stated target is 100 million customers [6], up to 25% above today's base [16]. In the US, the ambition is stated flatly. "We want to dominate," Storonsky said. "Otherwise, what's the point?" [14]
We think the staging is a choice, and a cheap one. Revolut's limited US business already runs through a partner bank and, according to Crowdfund Insider, is profitable on modest investment [19] (the report gives no profit figure), so waiting on the FDIC and Federal Reserve [2] costs little in the meantime. The counter-thesis is that nothing else was possible: clearance is outstanding, a card launch cannot come first, and the sequence is only the order of the gates. The two readings separate on timing. Clearance arriving early with cards still last would point to choice, and a slip past the first-half 2027 target would point to constraint [17].
A US primary listing, if Revolut pursues an IPO at all, waits until 2028 at the earliest [7]. Of the venue, "That was always the target, given the deep liquidity of the US market," Storonsky said [8].
We would be wrong if the cards arrive with rewards below those of Amex and JPMorgan, or if the first-half 2027 target moves. Each date and each rewards claim here comes from Storonsky or management, as relayed by Bloomberg and Crowdfund Insider.
What to watch
- Whether FDIC and Federal Reserve clearance arrives inside management's first-half 2027 target, or the date moves.
- Whether the December AIR test starts in the UK on schedule and whether a US date follows.
- The rewards rates and fees when Revolut prices its US card, set against Amex and JPMorgan's existing cards.
