Intuit opens its AI platform to Australian QuickBooks Online users in beta

Intuit switched on Intuit Intelligence in Australia on 14 October, in beta for QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Advanced customers. iTWire reports that Xero and MYOB have spent the past year wiring AI agents into their own ledgers.

How we use AI Send a correction

What happened

  • The platform sits under both QuickBooks and the new Intuit Accountant Suite, so owners and their accountants work from the same live data.
  • Owners get three headline features: Automations, Autonomous Invoicing and Conversational Custom Reports that return a forward-looking cash flow view.
  • Accountants get cross-client portfolio insights, Firm Playbooks for one-click client setup, and a Unified Inbox for client requests and messages.
  • The Australian switch-on came almost a year after Intuit first unveiled the platform on stage in Las Vegas.

Why it matters

  • decision Practices weighing year-end routines around Accountant Suite have to confirm, product by product, which features exist for their clients before standardising on them.
  • exposure Autonomous Invoicing sends invoices and handles reminders itself, so an error in it reaches the owner's customers as well as the books.
  • precedent The US pattern, a major update mostly in beta ten months after launch, is the nearest guide to how long Australian beta labels could last.

Intuit's pitch rests on one division of labour: the software does more of the routine work, and humans sign off on anything that matters [4]. The trade-off sits between those two halves. Anthony Capano, Intuit Australia's managing director, tied the design to trust. "That matters, because trust is as important as speed when it comes to AI," Capano said [10].

Autonomous Invoicing is where that trade-off bites first. It creates and sends invoices from a customer's own documents, then handles reminders and updates [6]. An error there would reach the owner's customers, not just the books.

Two caveats attach to the launch. The new features are in beta [2], and Intuit says availability across Intuit Accountant Suite "varies by product and region" [3]. iTWire supplies the skeptic's reading, writing that this is release-speak for "check before you plan your EOFY around it" [11]. For the accountant side, that reading holds. A practice that standardises onboarding on Firm Playbooks this quarter and finds a feature missing on a client's product next quarter ends up running two routines.

The US sequence is the nearest evidence on timing. Accountant Suite went live there in October 2025, and a major update in August 2026 added "cross-client insights, playbooks, custom AI automations and an agentic Books Close workflow, mostly in beta," according to iTWire [8]. The update came ten months after launch [12]. Two of the three Australian accountant features, cross-client portfolio insights and Firm Playbooks, are among the features that update introduced [14]. Practices should therefore read "beta" literally. US firms are also being moved off QuickBooks Online Accountant [9]. Whether Australian practices will see the same staging or the same migration, we do not know yet.

The competitive framing is iTWire's own, and it sets the launch against Xero and MYOB [13]. What the launch supports is narrower: Intuit's Australian customers on QuickBooks Online and Advanced can now try AI features in beta [2]. Whether that moves any firm off Xero or MYOB depends on a feature-by-feature comparison across the three vendors. In our view, for Xero and MYOB customers the launch changes nothing this quarter unless that comparison says otherwise.

What to watch

  • Whether Intuit publishes an Australian list of which Accountant Suite features are available on which QuickBooks product.
  • Whether Australian practices are moved off QuickBooks Online Accountant, as US firms are being moved.
  • Whether Automations, Autonomous Invoicing and Conversational Custom Reports leave beta for QuickBooks Online and Advanced customers.
