Harmonic Security raises $50M Series B and has extended its AI checks beyond the browser to desktop apps and agentic workflows

Harmonic Security raised a $50 million Series B led by Crosspoint Capital Partners to govern how employees use AI tools. Its checks began in the browser and now cover desktop AI apps and agentic workflows, the company says.

Series B is about two-thirds of Harmonic's funding Harmonic Security's funding rounds and the total investors have put in, in US dollars, as reported by SiliconANGLE.

Key figures: Harmonic Security's $50 million Series B, led by Crosspoint Capital Partners; its previous raise, a $17.5 million Series A led by Next47 in October 2024; and $76 million that investors have now put into Harmonic in total.

What happened

  • Harmonic's platform inspects what an employee sends to an AI tool before it arrives, using custom small language models that return a verdict within milliseconds.
  • A Usage Intelligence layer runs on the same models and shows leaders which AI use cases are paying off, down to individual employees who found a faster way to work.
  • An integration with Anthropic's Claude Compliance API pulls activity logs from Claude Platform deployments, and Claude Enterprise customers also send conversation content.
  • Investors have now put $76 million into Harmonic, so the Series B is about two-thirds of the total; the last raise was a $17.5 million Series A led by Next47 in October 2024.

Why it matters

  • decision A pilot should run on the team's own live traffic, since only real prompts will show where Harmonic draws the line between a pasted credential and a schema reference.
  • exposure Claude Enterprise customers who connect the integration put conversation content, not only activity logs, in front of a third-party vendor. Privacy and legal teams will want to review that.
  • constraint Payoff claims built on what employees send to AI tools measure activity; time saved or rework would have to come from a separate baseline the buyer supplies.
  • precedent Links to Cisco's Agent Builder and Anthropic's compliance API suggest governance coverage for agents and hosted models will track what each platform chooses to expose.

An employee pastes a live credential into a chat window. A developer pastes a reference to a database schema. Harmonic says its system is tuned to catch the first and let the second pass [1].

We'd expect users to route around a checker that stops schema references, and a security team to drop one that misses credentials.

A browser-only check assumes employees do their AI work in a browser tab. Harmonic's view of what users actually do is different: it says trouble usually begins in desktop AI applications and agentic workflows, for example when an employee logs in to an AI service with a personal account [4].

Alastair Paterson, Harmonic's co-founder and chief executive, said "every board I talk to" now wants to know whether AI is delivering value [5]. The Usage Intelligence layer that answers the question runs on the same models [6], so what it sees is the interactions those models read [2]. A prompt log shows what someone asked. Time saved and rework are the measures that would show value, and a prompt log can only hint at them. SiliconANGLE's report does not say how Harmonic decides that a use case is paying off.

Harmonic said more than 100 companies are customers and that millions of their employees are covered [9]. Covered counts people whose traffic passes through the checks. A buyer should ask for retention and usage depth. Staff numbers have passed 90 across the U.S. and the U.K. [10].

Crosspoint led the round [11], and its managing director Zach Sivertson said security "has too often slowed the adoption of new technology," adding that Harmonic gives leaders the visibility to roll AI out sooner [14]. He speaks as the lead investor.

For a team deciding on Monday, we'd sort every AI tool in use on two questions. First, does inspection sit in that tool's path: the browser, a desktop app, an agent platform such as Cisco's Agent Builder, which lists Harmonic among its ecosystem integrations [7], or a vendor log feed? Second, is there a before-and-after measure for the work the board cares about, such as time to close a support ticket?

Where both hold, the analytics layer can be tested. Inspection without a baseline is a risk-control purchase, and the payoff claims can be set aside. A baseline without inspection is a coverage gap to close first.

What to watch

  • Whether Harmonic or its customers publish miss and false-positive rates for the credential-versus-schema judgement.
  • Whether Harmonic defines what makes a use case count as paying off in Usage Intelligence, and what measure sits behind it.
  • Whether AI vendors other than Anthropic open compliance APIs, and which plan tier gets conversation content.
