A $3.5 billion week came almost entirely from Ether being remarked to $2,440. The last 187,000 tokens cost more than the cash the company reports holding.

A 31.5% move in one token produced a 30.7% move in everything BitMine says it owns [5][1]. Less than a percentage point separates the two, and that spread is the balance sheet's entire character: nothing else on it is large enough to dampen anything.
Take the company's own reference price of $2,440 from Coinbase. At that mark, 5,847,611 ETH is worth about $14.27 billion, roughly 96% of the $14.9 billion headline [1][2][3][2]. The disclosed non-Ether items that carry a stated price (a $180 million stake in MrBeast's Beast Industries, $89 million of Eightco, and the cash and marketable securities) come to about $577 million, under 4% of the total [8][9][9]. Multiply the token count by the week's price change and you get about $3.20 billion, roughly 91% of the $3.5 billion reported gain [3]. The rest is purchasing, not performance: 32,447 tokens bought [1].
On timing, the arithmetic in the source runs looser than the numbers under it. Cryptopolitan says the remaining gap could close in a couple of months at a pace of about 32,000 ETH a week [12]. Divide 187,000 by last week's 32,447 and it is under six weeks [7]. Both figures assume a cadence that has not held: in July the weekly buy fell from 42,197 ETH to 27,801, and while the firm has bought every week without a break since June 30, 2025, the sizes move around [13][11]. Cryptopolitan also notes the schedule sits with the board [12].
Then there is what the threshold actually delivers. Ethereum's circulating supply is about 120.7 million tokens, putting 5% near 6.04 million, against BitMine's 4.84% [4]. The remaining gap is about 0.15% of supply [10], and crossing it grants no say over the network's upgrades or governance, which the company does not dispute even as Tom Lee markets the target as the "Alchemy of 5%" [7]. Lee's argument for the week itself is momentum: he says the only two comparable weekly gains, in May 2025 and July 2021, came before larger moves in Ether [6]. That is a forecast about price, which is the one input this balance sheet responds to.

BitMine added 32,447 Ether last week, taking holdings to 5,847,611 ETH, about 187,000 tokens short of a 5% stake in Ethereum's supply.
BitMine said total holdings of crypto, cash and equity were $14.9 billion as of August 24, 2026, up from $11.4 billion a week earlier.
The company pegged its ETH at a reference price of $2,440 from Coinbase versus $1,893 a week earlier, and said most of the $3.5 billion swing was due to the re-rating of Ether.
Ethereum's circulating supply is about 120.7 million tokens, putting the 5% milestone at around 6.04 million ETH; BitMine's 5.85 million holding is about 4.84% of supply.
BitMine finances part of its weekly buying with a Series A Perpetual Preferred traded on the NYSE as BMNP, paying a 9.50% coupon in weekly cash dividends; it was priced on June 10, 2026 at $80 a share, raising about $273.8 million, with backers listed including ARK Invest, Founders Fund, Pantera Capital, Kraken and Galaxy Digital.
A Cryptopolitan report on July 13 said BMNR traded near 52-week lows with a market value below the value of the company's Ether, an unrealized loss of about $9 billion at an average cost near $3,997 per token, and weekly buys slowing from 42,197 ETH to 27,801.

Evidence-backed comparisons of source perspectives and observed adoption signals. Read the methodology
Which Builder, Operator, and Investor concerns the observed source mix emphasized—not a truth score.
Evidence, demonstrated adoption, hype gap, incentives, and confidence are assessed independently, each on its own current evidence. How these are measured.
Single outlet relaying company self-disclosure
Every quantitative claim originates in BitMine's own holdings post and Tom Lee's quotes, reported by one publisher; no filing, auditor, exchange or third-party confirmation is supplied. The figures are internally consistent and check out arithmetically (token count x reference price, week-on-week deltas), and the outlet's own prior July 13 reporting provides one independent-in-time datapoint, which lifts this above bare assertion but not to verified.
Real, sustained accumulation with a discounted equity
Adoption here is the treasury programme itself, and it is documented rather than announced: an unbroken weekly buying streak since June 30, 2025, 5,847,611 ETH on the books, and a $273.8 million preferred placement with named institutional backers. It is capped below high by the demand-side signal running the other way — the same outlet reported the equity trading near 52-week lows and below the value of its own Ether, with weekly purchase sizes fluctuating from 42,197 to 27,801 tokens.
Milestone framing overstates a mark-to-market week
The headline achievement is a $3.5 billion week, but roughly 91% of it is a reference-price remark on tokens already held, and the branded 'Alchemy of 5%' target is explicitly conceded to confer no network control. Against that, the position remains about 39% below its roughly $3,997 average cost, the final 187,000 tokens cost about $148 million more than reported cash, and Lee's '>30% signals a launch point' pattern is an unverified assertion by the largest interested buyer. The gap is not larger because the outlet does surface the underwater cost basis and the no-governance caveat itself.
Promoter-sourced numbers, financing-dependent narrative
The story's data comes from the company's own weekly post and from Tom Lee, whose vehicle must keep issuing securities to fund purchases: a 9.50% perpetual preferred paying weekly cash dividends of roughly $500,000 sits behind the buying, and the equity has traded below the value of its Ether. A milestone narrative directly supports continued capital raising, and the listed backers also hold positions. The publisher is a crypto-native outlet whose piece ends in a newsletter solicitation, though it does include the underwater cost basis and the no-control caveat, which partially offsets.
Consistent but unverified single-source picture
The token counts, prices and deltas hang together and the derived arithmetic reconciles, so the descriptive picture is probably accurate as disclosed. Confidence is held below the midpoint by there being one publisher, no primary filing or independent valuation, an issuer-chosen reference price, and forward statements (timeline to 5%, launch-point pattern) that the supplied material cannot test.
