Cisco will let Webex teams @mention Claude and other AI agents in shared spaces
Cisco will let Webex users @mention AI agents, including Claude, in group spaces from Q1 2027, so the work is shared with the team. Agents used in calls stay visible only to the individual user, a Cisco spokesperson said.

What happened
- Users will soon be able to @mention agents in Webex spaces to help schedule meetings, take notes and track tasks.
- Anthropic's Claude Managed Agents can be added to group conversations as a team member, as can OpenAI's recently announced dot agents.
- Cisco's Webex Suite MCP integration brings Webex context directly into OpenAI's dots.
- Personal Agents for Webex Calling, which screen calls for users who cannot talk, arrive in the first quarter of 2027 with the new Webex app, collaborative agents and third-party agents.
- The Translator agent enters general release in November after controlled availability, and the AI Coach agent for Vidcast is available now.
Why it matters
- decision Before the agents ship in Q1 2027, admins have to choose which agents each space may add and which CRM, ERP or project systems those agents can read. Lazar ties an agent's usefulness to exactly those connections.
- exposure If OpenAI's dots also runs inside Webex as an always-on agent, Cisco's access controls have to cover an OpenAI agent alongside Claude and Cisco's own.
- contradiction Cisco's release says collaborative agents can be invited into meetings and calls, while a spokesperson said call side-panel agents are private to one user. Until Cisco documents it, meeting behavior is unsettled.
- precedent Lazar said Slack, with Claude Tag, and Zoom, via ZoomMate, have made similar efforts. The same permissions question will reach any suite that puts agents in shared channels.
Snorre Kjesbu, a Cisco vice president and general manager for collaboration, said in a blog post: "This makes AI a shared capability for the team." [16] What a team shares depends on what the agent can reach before it posts. Metrigy analyst Irwin Lazar said: "Like the others, the strength of the agent is dependent on its access to information, so the key is enabling connectivity to external data sources such as CRM, ERP, project management, etc." [12]
Cisco's own example chains two agents. In its release of Oct 7 [2], a team member @mentions an analytics agent in a space to pull usage statistics, then asks a presentation agent to update a PowerPoint deck to reflect those numbers [8]. The second agent works from the first one's numbers.
Cisco says it brings identity, security, governance and visibility together so organizations can control what AI can access, what it can do and how it acts [18]. For Claude, the release refers to "coordinated action across approved agents" [9]. The release does not say who approves an agent, or whether a space agent runs with the permissions of the person who mentions it or with its own. We think that answer decides whether one person's CRM access ends up in front of everyone in the space.
Demand will push the question onto admins. Lazar said he has seen an uptick in business demand for agentic tools in collaboration applications generally [14]. He also named one limit on what Cisco's agents can know: "I would say the only weakness in the Cisco portfolio now is ability to capture data from non-Webex meetings." [15]
What to watch
- Cisco's admin documentation for collaborative agents before Q1 2027: whether a space agent acts with the requester's permissions or its own, and who approves agents.
- A ship date for Claude Managed Agents in Webex. Cisco's release says only "Soon".
- Cisco's clarification of how agents invited into meetings behave, against the individual-only call side panel.
