People buy Eufy for a dull reason. The footage lands on a box in a closet and no invoice arrives in March, and CNET's reviewer says that combination has made the brand his default no-subscription recommendation [18].
MindBase asks that same buyer to accept a larger closet box, and the economics are legible. Cloud vision costs a vendor money every month per camera, which is what a subscription funds; moving inference onto an in-house LLM running on a dedicated AI chip turns that recurring line into a one-time bill of materials [1][2]. Storage follows the same logic. Engadget describes the unit as a NAS with a 64GB SSD and two bays for 2.5 or 3.5-inch drives [5], and the 48TB ceiling Anker quotes [4] works out to 24TB per bay [2] that the customer buys.
The half of the system with prices on it is the half you can order. Android Authority puts the E50 NVR at $999 to start and $1,899 for the eight-camera kit with a 4TB drive [7], the Video Doorbell S4 at $299 with chime in late September [8], and the Window Camera E10 at $69.99 in Q4 [9]. That doorbell and window camera pair comes to $368.99 [1]. Anker has published neither a price nor a date for the hub they feed [6].
The company's own wording is where a Monday rollout gets complicated. The portfolio "processes sensitive biometric data on-device ... with no monthly subscriptions attached," Anker told CNET, then added that premium and optional features may require a monthly fee [10]. Neither Anker nor CNET can say which side of that line MindSafe Memory's AI search across photos, videos and files sits on [11], or where the promised energy and cleaning agents will land [14]. Eufy did indicate earlier in the summer that the Smart Security Shield's facial recognition, which reads encrypted facial data at up to 30 meters, would not need a subscription [12].
The pitch and the job are also different things. Engadget's account has the hub evaluating events in real time and responding by changing lighting, issuing a verbal warning, or performing something called "active deterrence" [19]. What households actually do with a local security box is search it and eventually move it, which is why T3's detail that HomeBase S380 owners can transfer existing footage into MindBase [15] matters more to a buyer than deterrence does. The reporting does not fully agree on the cameras either: CNET describes the eight-channel NVR kit as 2K throughout [21], while Android Authority says the E50 pairs a 2K bullet lens with a 4K PTZ camera in one unit [20].
Two questions per feature sort the whole purchase: whether the feature needs the LLM or only local storage, and whether it sits in the free tier or in the premium and optional bucket Anker reserved. Storage-only and free is what you own on day one, meaning 24/7 recording [21] and the S380 migration [15]. LLM and free is what Anker has to prove, starting with face recognition at 30 meters [12]. LLM and paid is where energy and cleaning agents most plausibly land [14], because recurring compute paired with recurring value is the easiest fee for any vendor to defend. Anything in that last cell is a roadmap item until a number exists, and the honest way to spec a MindBase install is to count only the cells you can see.
