Apple's fee terms keep India's biggest card issuers out of the Apple Pay launch

Apple Pay launched in India on Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards only, with Apple reportedly seeking a fee of about 20 basis points per transaction. How far it spreads now depends on bank negotiations and on acquirers enabling terminals one at a time.

Apple Pay opens in India with Axis Bank as its only card issuer

Apple Pay went live in India on 30 September, and at launch the only cards users can add are Axis Bank's Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Until another bank signs up, every Apple Pay purchase in the country runs on an Axis credit card, whatever the merchant or processor.
