Robinhood gives all 29 million customers AI agents that trade in plain English
Robinhood is opening AI trading agents built on OpenAI and Anthropic models to all of its roughly 29 million customers this week. The 150,000 who have opened agent accounts so far are about half a percent of them, so any effect on markets depends on how many more sign up.

What happened
- Robinhood also announced weekend trading in select stocks, earnings prediction contracts, longer options hours, up to 4x intraday margin and OCO orders.
- Robinhood's in-app agents, built on OpenAI and Anthropic models, trade only from a separate agentic account, with approval of each trade on by default and switchable off.
- Robinhood Social left beta for all eligible US users, who can post charts, portfolio allocations and P&L beside verified commentators and company profiles.
- Robinhood will bill customers for model usage and keep OpenAI's Luna model free for the rest of 2026, and it declined to say whether it shares revenue with AI providers.

Why it matters
- decision Lighter's recovery now depends on a routing choice Robinhood makes once decentralized perpetuals get a legal US path, a choice LIT holders have no say in.
- exposure A customer who switches off approval carries every agent trade personally, with no Robinhood data on whether agentic accounts do better or worse than other strategies.
- cost The real price of agent trading stays hidden until Luna's free period ends after 2026, and without a revenue-share disclosure shareholders cannot see what Robinhood keeps from the model bill.
Bankless framed the summit as Robinhood's bid to own the entire investment cycle, from research to a thesis to execution [11]. In my view the launch list supports a narrower claim: each product moves one step of a retail trade onto systems Robinhood controls. Agents now run inside the app. Before, the company mostly connected outside agents through its Trading MCP [12]. The data they read arrives through Agent Apps from Nasdaq, Unusual Whales, SpotGamma, Quiver Quantitative and Token Terminal [13]. Earnings calls and trading now share one screen [14]. The perpetuals run on Bitstamp, an exchange Robinhood owns [1][2].
Agent usage is already heavy. More than 150,000 customers have opened agentic accounts [5], and agents call Robinhood's tools nearly 30 million times a day [6]. Divided out, that is up to about 200 calls per account per day [1]. The account figure is a floor, so 200 is a ceiling. Abhishek Fatehpuria, Robinhood's vice president of product management, said that if the product were made "100 times easier and more delightful," then "you could probably go from 150,000 people using it to millions" [7].
For Lighter, the damage on the record so far is a token price. According to Bankless, Robinhood Crypto head Johann Kerbrat had described the constraint two weeks before the summit: US regulation is fragmented, Robinhood is cautious as a public company, and it is still unclear how decentralized perpetuals can legally operate in America [16]. Bankless called the selloff a repricing of near-term expectations [17]. None of the three reports includes Lighter's trading volumes, so there is no evidence yet that any business left the venue.
If US rules stay unclear, Bitstamp keeps the flow by default and the question goes untested. If they clear and Robinhood adds Lighter, the 17% fall [3] was about timing. If they clear and Robinhood stays on Bitstamp, Bankless said it would start asking harder questions [17]. I'd expect that last outcome. Robinhood Chain and tokenization, the most crypto-native items on offer, played a smaller part at the summit [19], while the launches that led kept the customer inside Robinhood's own app [12][14]. A Lighter integration within months of a clear US path would prove me wrong.
Chief executive Vlad Tenev said in a press release that the line-up gives retail investors products "once reserved for hedge funds, big banks, and quant firms" [20]. Robinhood said customers are responsible for their agents' trades. It also said it has not yet measured or compared their investment outcomes with those of non-agentic strategies [9]. Loops, the next feature, will keep checking the market and run a strategy automatically when set conditions are met [21].
What to watch
- Whether US regulators open a legal path for decentralized perpetual exchanges, and whether Robinhood then routes any flow to Lighter.
- The agentic account count after the rollout, measured against the 150,000 base and Fatehpuria's talk of millions.
- What Robinhood charges for agent model usage once Luna's free period ends, and any disclosure of revenue-sharing with OpenAI or Anthropic.
