Tencent reportedly rents 100,000 Oracle GPUs abroad that US export controls keep out of China

Tencent signed a five-year lease worth about $7bn for 100,000 GPUs in Oracle's Southeast Asian data centers, the Financial Times reported. About 30 percent is due upfront, so chips that US export controls keep out of China still come with a purchase-sized cash bill.

TikTok will cap Alabama children at two hours a day under $100m settlement

TikTok will pay Alabama $100m and cap children's use at two hours a day to settle the state's addictive-design lawsuit. Meta agreed to comparable limits with the state in August, so both companies now owe Alabama time limits and night blocks for children.

China's industry ministry asks some companies to size their Nvidia RTX Pro 5500 orders

China asked Alibaba and ByteDance how many Nvidia RTX Pro 5500s they want, with H200 deliveries at a few percent of the 400,000-plus it approved. Shipments sit far below both governments' ceilings, so the limit is in the conditions and oversight attached to them.

TikTok's Alabama settlement caps underage users at two hours a day

TikTok will pay Alabama at least $100 million and limit underage users to two hours a day in its first state settlement over teen social media addiction. It could owe up to $300 million if the features don't ship, and the list resembles what Meta agreed to in settling with 47 states.

TikTok's $400M settlement puts a price on the parental deletion request nobody actioned

The DoJ split the payment, holding a quarter of it against the removal of a legacy consent decree, and credited TikTok's later fixes without discounting the bill for the earlier ones.

TikTok's $400mn settlement prices the second offence at about 70 times the first

Musical.ly paid $5.7mn in 2019 over the same statute. The DOJ's complaint treats registration-flow design as the violation, which makes age-gating a documented enforcement target.

Meta stakes $5.3 billion of its settlement on TikTok, YouTube and Snap copying its teen rules

The fixed $12.7 billion works out to roughly two days of Meta's revenue a year, while the contingent tranche, worth about nine days of sales, only gets paid if three competitors decline to restrict teens the way Meta now must.
