Bitmine concentrates 94% of its assets in the token Lee says will beat bitcoin
Bitmine's 5,929,198 ETH is worth about $14.79bn at $2,495 a token, against $15.7bn of total assets, and the $330m of staking revenue the company projects is the smaller half of that arithmetic.

What happened
- Bitmine Immersion Technologies disclosed buying 28,086 ETH over the past week, bringing its holdings to 5,929,198 tokens as of September 7, worth about $14.8bn at $2,495 each.
- That stack equals 4.9% of Ethereum's 122 million token supply, just short of the 5% threshold Lee has branded the "Alchemy of 5%".
- About 85% of the position is staked through Bitmine's MAVAN platform and partners, and the company projects $330m in annual staking revenue at a 2.61% seven-day yield.

Why it matters
- constraint Staking income cannot carry this equity: the $23.08 slip from $2,495 to $2,471.92 costs $137m across the holding, roughly five months of the $330m annual projection.
- decision Crossing 5% takes another 170,802 ETH, about $426m at $2,495 and six weeks at last week's pace, capital that then is not sitting in the $593m buffer or buying more Eightco-style stakes.
- exposure With 211 Bitcoin worth about $17.4m, or 0.11% of assets, shareholders hold effectively no offset if the ratio Lee needs at 0.04 travels the other way instead.
- contradiction Cryptopolitan frames the buy as a signal for institutions choosing between ETH and BTC, yet the demand evidence offered, $12bn of tokenized Treasuries, is smaller than Bitmine's own $14.79bn position.
The $330m staking projection is the one figure in the disclosure that can be checked against itself: 85 percent of 5,929,198 tokens is about 5.04 million ETH, worth roughly $12.57bn at $2,495, and 2.61 percent of that is $328m [6][2]. So the number is arithmetic rather than forecast, which also means it inherits both inputs, a seven-day yield and a spot price, neither of which is contracted to anyone.
Set that against the balance sheet. The Ether position is about 94 percent of $15.7bn in total assets [5], and the $91m of Eightco Holdings, the $180m Beast Industries stake and the $593m of cash and marketable securities come to $864m between them, or 5.5 percent [8][6].
Lee's $6,000 path is two multiplications stacked, and worth unpacking because the source gives both terms. An ETH/BTC ratio of 0.02994 with Ether at $2,471.92 implies bitcoin somewhere near $82,560 [10][15][7]; the walk to $150,000 is 1.82 times, lifting the ratio to 0.04 is another 1.34 times, and 1.82 multiplied by 1.34 is 2.43, which applied to $2,471.92 lands at about $6,000 [12][9]. Internally consistent, then, and also two separate bets, of which Lee's four year-end catalysts (CLARITY Act passage, sidelined capital returning, Asian rotation, institutions chasing performance) speak mainly to the ratio [11]. At $6,000 the stack is worth $35.6bn, an unrealised gain of $20.8bn on the $2,495 mark [13], which is the entire equity story compressed into one line.
What the disclosure as reported does not carry is a share count [19], so the premium or discount at which $24.97 trades against $15.7bn of assets cannot be worked out from it, and the two price marks quoted sit on different days, Ether's $2,471.92 on a Tuesday and the 5.6 percent share decline into Friday's close [15], so they will not yield a beta either. Tom DeMark, a Bitmine adviser, expects a sharp move higher in the coming weeks after August traded sideways without breaking down [14]. Lee's claimed 5,430 basis points of third-quarter outperformance against the S&P 500, which is 54.3 percentage points [13][12], is the sort of figure that recruits capital while it points the right way.
My read is that Bitmine is a leveraged claim on one exchange rate wearing the clothes of settlement infrastructure, and that Lee's dollar analogy [16] describes Ethereum rather than the vehicle holding it. The counter-thesis has teeth: if tokenized settlement keeps compounding and staking yields hold, 4.9 percent of supply with 85 percent of it staked is a toll position an ETF structurally cannot hold [5][6], and the equity deserves to trade above asset value rather than below. Both versions are falsifiable by the same public number. Lee needs 0.04 and has 0.02994, and the ratio touched roughly 0.08 in 2021, so it can travel that far [10]. If the ratio is still under 0.03 when the CLARITY Act question is settled, the tokenization argument survives and the trade does not.
What to watch
- Bitmine's next weekly purchase disclosure: a pace above or below 28,086 ETH says whether the 5% line is a target or a talking point.
- The CLARITY Act's progress, the only one of Lee's four year-end catalysts with a legislative calendar behind it.
- The seven-day staking yield: below 2.61% and the projected annual revenue falls with it, before any price move.
