Huawei dates the 960DT to Q1 2027 and the Ascend 960PR to Q3

Rotating chairman David Wang dated both parts and said UnifiedBus superclusters support up to a million AI processors. He also counted more than 1,000 supernodes shipped to over 370 customers, without saying how many chips each one holds.

Divide 1,000 supernodes by 370 customers and the average buyer has taken about 2.7 systems, using the floor figures Wang gave [1]. Wang did not say how many chips a supernode connects, and he did not name a customer or break the shipments down by product [7]. A 2027 supply plan runs on accelerators, and the shipped fleet does not convert into an accelerator count.

The reason interconnect leads the announcement is the constraint underneath it. Washington's export controls restrict China's access to certain advanced computing chips and to the equipment used to make them [10]. A buyer who cannot freely get the fastest foreign part can still assemble more total compute by joining larger numbers of locally available chips into one system, and per Reuters that approach only works well if the chips can exchange information quickly enough [11][12]. Huawei has developed 11 semiconductors based on UnifiedBus for use in its large systems, Wang said [4].

A supernode, in Huawei's own description, is a system that brings together many AI chips to tackle the same task [9]. The larger unit, the supercluster, can support up to 1 million AI processors, according to Wang [5]. That figure is a configuration ceiling. For a million processors to be a million useful processors on one training job, effective bandwidth per chip has to hold as the domain grows, and the job has to survive the component failure rate of a million parts. Wang described UnifiedBus as a key link in the company's next generation of large AI systems [3].

The transfer cost lands on the software side. Huawei's AI chip ecosystem has 5,270 monthly active developers, Wang said [8]. Nvidia's hardware and software tools are widely used by developers around the world, Reuters reports [13]. A team porting a training stack to Ascend in 2027 pays for the kernel and framework work itself, and a base of 5,270 active developers is a small one to ask for help with a fused attention kernel.

What a planner can hold Huawei to is two quarters: the 960DT in the first quarter of 2027 [1] and the Ascend 960PR in the third [2]. Those are launch dates, two quarters apart [2]. Wang's speech in Shanghai was a roadmap, and volume availability is a separate schedule [14].
