Paxos adds XRP to its brokerage infrastructure, leaving the listing decision up to partners like PayPal and Venmo
Paxos added XRP, a token worth nearly $95 billion, to its Crypto Brokerage platform on October 7, opening it to clients such as PayPal and Schwab. Retail buyers get it only when a partner lists it, a step Schwab's August token plan did not take.

What happened
- Partners can let customers buy, sell, hold, deposit and withdraw XRP, while Paxos supplies custody, licensing and trade execution behind each partner's own app.
- Paxos started 2026 supporting 12 assets on its brokerage platform and now supports between 25 and 29, according to Crypto Briefing.
- Paxos runs the service as a national trust bank supervised by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
- XRP traded at $1.43 after falling more than 6% in the wider crypto sell-off.

Why it matters
- capability A smaller fintech already plugged into Paxos can offer XRP without building its own custody or signing a second provider for one token.
- decision Schwab already uses Paxos for execution and sub-custody, so adding XRP would be a listing choice for Schwab on infrastructure it already uses.
- exposure Any partner that switches XRP on puts its customers' tokens in Paxos custody, so the same provider's controls stand behind the asset at every partner brand.
Crypto.news carried the XRP Ledger Foundation's list of Paxos clients [10]. It also cautioned that the list records existing business relationships and should not be read as an XRP listing by Interactive Brokers, Mercado Libre or anyone else on it [11]. Paxos describes itself as an infrastructure provider that does not compete for its partners' end users [5], and the XRP update adds the token to that infrastructure without any consumer app of Paxos's own [6]. A retail customer gets XRP only if the app in front of them adds it [3].
Schwab is the one partner whose menu appears in the reporting. Its Aug. 27 plan adds Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink to bitcoin and ether, for five tokens in all [12]. At the top of Crypto Briefing's range, 29 assets, five tokens is 17% of the Paxos roster; at the bottom, 25, it is 20% [20]. So Schwab plans to offer at most a fifth of what its execution provider supports. Schwab reported 39.8 million active brokerage accounts and $13.1 trillion in client assets at the end of the second quarter, figures that cover the whole firm, not customers eligible to trade XRP [15].
Listing is only one of the choices a partner makes. Paxos's XRP support covers deposits and withdrawals to outside addresses [3], yet Schwab's crypto service launched without external transfers and charges a 0.75% transaction fee [14]. At that rate, buying a position and later selling it costs about 1.5% in fees [21].
If partners already on Paxos switch XRP on quickly, retail reach widens through apps that already have the customers. If they keep short menus like Schwab's, the addition mostly serves institutional partners that want custody and execution for one more major asset. A third path is Schwab adding XRP in a later round. That would show the Paxos listing changed a large partner's decision.
I think the short-menu outcome is the likelier one in the near term. Paxos added between 13 and 17 assets this year [19], each through its own evaluation and approval process [8], while the one partner menu in the reporting stops at five [12]. A named partner putting XRP into a consumer app would prove that view wrong. The counter-case is Crypto Briefing's. It argues XRP's inclusion may attract retail investors who prefer regulated venues, reaching them through Paxos's partners [22]. Paxos, for its part, cites more than 8.1 million wallets already holding the token [4].
What to watch
- Whether Schwab's transfer testing, disclosed in July, becomes live external deposits and withdrawals for its crypto accounts.
- An exact Paxos asset count to replace Crypto Briefing's 25-to-29 range, and which token it adds after XRP.
- Ripple's separate expansion of custody to Canton and brokerage to Brevan Howard, and whether it competes with Paxos for the same institutional clients.
