Korea sends three economic ministries into confirmation hearings in one package

The way a hearing season allocates attention is the mechanism worth watching. If that reading is right, delay costs decision speed rather than policy direction, because the incumbent policy is being promoted rather than replaced. Two posts stayed put in the reshuffle. Presidential office policy chief Kim Yong-beom and Unification Minister Chung Dong-young remained in place, which the PPP called a "scapegoating reshuffle" ^[9], so the two officials the opposition most wanted moved are the two who will not sit through a hearing. Meanwhile two of the ten posts are AI-specific, the vice chairmanship of the National AI Strategy Committee and a senior secretary for AI future planning ^[15], and in the published account the PPP's named objections run to Justice, the economy and land posts, the retentions, and the political affairs adviser, with the AI seats absent from the list ^[16]. The expected standoff is described as being over the minister nominees ^[3], which puts the AI committee seat, the mega projects adviser and the political affairs adviser, a post filled by former Regional Era Committee chairman Kim Kyoung-soo and attacked as patronage for June 3 election losers ^[12], outside the named fight.

This is probably the wrong read, but what gets held up here is sequencing, and substance stays where it was: the economic portfolios are internal promotions ^[7], so the thing a hearing war actually delays is the first decision each new minister signs, not the direction of the policy. Two ways it plays differently. If the Justice hearing swallows the session, the land and SME nominees arrive with no political capital and defer everything contentious; if the opposition instead spreads its vetting across all six, the AI and mega-project appointments become the only lane moving at speed.
