EU energy labels put the Pro Max battery gain at eight times the iPhone 18 Pro's
Apple does not always publish full spec sheets, so the battery capacities for this year's iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max became public on European energy labels, and the two models did not gain the same amount.

Why it matters

The person who has to answer whether the new phone survives a double shift now has a figure to work from, and it came off an EU energy label. TechRadar says Apple does not always publish full spec sheets, and that these capacities are public because European rules require the disclosure [7].
Work back from the percentages. The Pro's 4,056 mAh divided by 1.0145 puts last year's model at about 3,998 mAh, and the Pro Max's 5,391 mAh divided by 1.118 puts last year's at about 4,822 mAh [16]. So the Pro Max added roughly 569 mAh and the Pro roughly 58 [17]. In percentage terms the Pro Max gain is about eight times the Pro's [18].
Capacity is not runtime, and Apple's own figures show the spread. The Pro Max holds 33% more charge than the Pro [19] and claims 25% more video playback [20]. Apple calls the Pro Max change "the largest increase in battery life ever" on an iPhone [4]. TechRadar does not give last year's playback hours, so the year-over-year comparison stops at capacity.
The modem story rests on less. TechRadar, citing MacRumors, reports a social media tip drawn from iOS 27 code: every iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max carries Apple's C2 modem except US Pro Max units, which use a Qualcomm chip, most likely the Snapdragon X85 [8][10]. TechRadar says the split is not confirmed and that pre-orders do not ship until Friday, September 18 [9][11]. It also says there should be no noticeable performance difference between the C2 and the X85, while Apple says the C2 is faster than its earlier C1X [12][13]. Why the Qualcomm part is still in that one model is not clear, and TechRadar suggests contractual obligations [14].
Teams read a capacity number as an upgrade story. Users notice one thing, which is whether they had to go looking for a charger. So a spec delta gets two filters before it justifies changing which model you buy. One: the published number has to describe the unit on your order, not a regional variant of it. Two: the change has to touch something users already fail at, such as a phone that dies before the shift ends. The Pro Max sold in the EU passes both, because the label and the hardware in the box are the same phone. The Pro passes the first and fails the second, since 58 mAh will not move anyone's charging habit whatever the marketing hours say.
For teams that buy the non-Pro model in volume, none of this is actionable yet. TechRadar expects the standard iPhone 18 in March, alongside the iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2 [15].
