At $2 trillion, Anthropic would list at about 30 times its latest quarter annualized
Anthropic told investors its third-quarter revenue reached $16.8 billion and that it turned a profit, the Financial Times reported. At up to $2 trillion, that quarter annualized puts the listing near 30 times sales.

Key figures: a $2 trillion valuation is about 59.5 times annualized gross profit at a 50% margin, about 37 times gross profit at an 80% margin, and about 29.8 times annualized Q3 revenue.
| Figure | Value | Note | Claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annualized gross profit at a 50% margin | 59.5 times, about | 12 | |
| Gross profit, 80% margin | 37 times, about | 13 | |
| Annualized Q3 revenue | 29.8 times, about | 7 |
What happened
- Cryptobriefing put the increase in third-quarter revenue at 46%.
- The first profitable quarter was Q2 2026, on preliminary revenue above $11.5 billion, according to a separate cryptobriefing report.
- Anthropic is targeting a Nasdaq listing around mid-November, with its roadshow set to begin around November 9.
Why it matters
- contradiction One report treats Q3 profit as an expectation and the FT-sourced one as done, and only one source reports the Q2 profit that makes it two straight quarters.
- exposure A buyer at 30 times sales is exposed to the gap between adjusted and GAAP results: the 2025 operating loss was 1.7 times revenue, and no report itemizes the adjustments.
- decision Investors have to pick a denominator: 30 times annualized sales, 60 times gross profit at a 50% margin, or 37 times at the 80% figure that excludes two real costs.
A $16.8 billion quarter [1] annualizes to $67.2 billion [6], which puts the $2 trillion top of the reported range at about 29.8 times and the $1.8 trillion bottom at about 26.8 times [7]. Cryptobriefing wrote that the company is reportedly seeking that range and that no official target has been set [18].
The 46% growth figure [2] looks sequential, and the base is our inference. Dividing $16.8 billion by 1.46 gives $11.5 billion [8], the preliminary second-quarter revenue [15]. Taken year on year, the same 46% would make Q3 2025 revenue $11.5 billion, 2.5 times the $4.6 billion Anthropic booked in all of 2025 [4][9]. A quarter cannot exceed its year, so the base is almost certainly Q2 2026.
The late-July run rate of about $65 billion [3] adds a puzzle. Q3 annualized sits only 3.4% above it [10], after a second quarter that annualized at $46 billion [11]. Either most of the climb came before August or run rate is measured differently from quarterly revenue.
The profit is the softer number. According to cryptobriefing, the milestone is measured on an adjusted operating basis, not GAAP, and GAAP losses continue on compute spending and non-cash charges [16]. In 2025 the operating loss was about $8 billion on $4.6 billion of revenue, or 1.7 times sales [4][14]. The net loss, near $42 billion, was mostly non-cash [4].
The reports also disagree on tense. A separate cryptobriefing article says Anthropic expects positive adjusted operating income for Q3, which would be a second straight profitable quarter [17]. The FT, as relayed by Reuters, says Anthropic told investors it turned a profit in the quarter [1]. The Q2 profit that makes it "two straight" appears in only one of the sources [15].
Margin decides whether 30 times sales is expensive. Blended gross margin is projected above 50% through 2026, and above 80% with partner revenue share and training costs excluded [5]. At a 50% floor, $67.2 billion of annualized revenue leaves $33.6 billion of gross profit, and $2 trillion is 59.5 times that [12]. At 80% the multiple falls to about 37 [13], but that figure leaves out two costs Anthropic does pay. At these multiples, the price assumes growth continues. We would be wrong if the prospectus shows Q3 GAAP operating results near break-even, or blended margins well above 50%.
The calendar is short. Anthropic is targeting a mid-November Nasdaq listing, with the roadshow around November 9 [19]. Cryptobriefing cites some markets that put the chance of a market cap between $1.75 trillion and $2 trillion at 29% [20].
What to watch
- Whether the prospectus reconciles adjusted operating income to the GAAP operating result for both Q2 and Q3.
- The price range and underwriter guidance around the November 9 roadshow, and whether it sits inside $1.8 trillion to $2 trillion.
- Whether the filed Q3 revenue matches $16.8 billion and what gross margin it shows against the 50% projection.
