Acer undercuts the Googlebook lineup at $899 with the only 360-degree convertible

The hinge is the only durability figure in Acer's announcement: 20,000 open-and-close cycles on the custom 360-degree mechanism behind the clamshell, tent, stand and tablet postures ^[5]. Ten flips a working day across 250 working days is 2,500 cycles a year, so the rating covers eight years of that use ^[1]. A buyer refreshing sooner than that is paying for hinge life they will not use.

The $899 is an entry point and, for now, only that. Chrome Unboxed's report lists the Intel Core Ultra 5 325 and Core Ultra 7 355 as the processor options and configurations up to 32GB of LPDDR5X and 512GB of PCIe Gen4 storage ^[7][9], but does not say which of those the starting price includes ^[14].

The upgrade decision is clearer than the price. Acer says both chips carry an Intel AI Boost NPU rated up to 50 TOPS, and names Magic Pointer, Rambler and proactive Gemini cues as the system features that run on it ^[8]. The Ultra 7 adds CPU and graphics over the Ultra 5 at the same NPU rating. That matters for the team that justified this platform on its on-device features.

Acer's fast-charge claim is 50% in 30 minutes on a 71Wh pack ^[10]. Half of 71Wh delivered in half an hour is about 71W of average input ^[3], which sits inside the 100W power delivery on the single Thunderbolt 4 port ^[11]. The two other Type-C ports are 10Gbps and are placed on either side, so the machine charges from whichever side the desk allows ^[11].

That port list is the line item most likely to surprise whoever writes the purchase order. Meeting rooms with HDMI, desks with USB-A hubs, and anything with a barrel plug all need adapters, on the same requisition.

Per role, it comes down to which posture that person needs that a clamshell cannot do, and what they plug in. Handwritten-notes roles get something concrete from the flip: USI 2.0 stylus support on a 2880 x 1800 OLED panel rated at 500 nits peak and 100% DCI-P3, under Gorilla Glass ^[6]. Roles that live in clamshell are buying a 1.14 kg chassis at 13.9mm with a laser-etched compliance panel and 49% circular materials ^[4][13], plus a hinge they never flip.
