Stoke Space raises 43% of its lifetime capital in one round to fund a second rocket
Point72 Ventures and Spark Capital led a $1 billion Series E at roughly $10 billion. The money funds two clean-sheet rockets in parallel: Pathfinder in 2027 and the 14-engine Block 2 in 2029.

Why it matters

Forty-three cents of every dollar Stoke Space has ever raised arrived in this round: $1 billion against $2.3 billion of lifetime funding since 2020 [14]. At roughly $10 billion, the money buys about a tenth of the equity if that figure is after the round [19]. Point72 Ventures and Spark Capital set that price [2].
Then there is the schedule. Pathfinder is due in 2027 and Block 2 two years after that [18]. Stoke will keep Pathfinder in service after Block 2 debuts, on dedicated satellite missions and batches of small satellites [12], so the round funds two vehicles and two customer classes at once. The Series E accelerates Pathfinder and funds a larger rocket already more than a year into development [1][5].
Lapsa says Pathfinder's manifest is fully booked "for the next couple years", and he declined to give a number of launches [6]. He points at the customers to explain Block 2. "We have seen customers moving up in both size and quantity of their spacecraft, and that's one of the big reasons to fully greenlight the Block 2," Lapsa said [11]. Block 2 will fly 14 Zenith engines against Pathfinder's seven [10][15], and Lapsa said constellation companies will need to carry more satellites at once as they replace aging ones [10].
Reuse costs payload. Pathfinder is designed to lift 3 metric tons to low Earth orbit recovered and up to 7 expended, so flying it back gives up 4 tons, 57% of the expendable figure [13][16]. Seven tons is slightly more than Firefly Aerospace's expendable Alpha and less than half of Falcon 9's, so Falcon 9 lifts more than 14 [13][17].
Lapsa's replenishment argument is the convincing part; the price is where I have doubts. SpaceX and companies in China bet on reusability to cut tens of millions of dollars off the cost of reaching orbit [8], and among US firms only a few are attempting full reuse, with Starship fully reusable and Rocket Lab's Neutron mostly so [9]. If replenishment work goes to the lowest cost per kilogram, a 14-engine vehicle whose first flight is expected in 2029 will be quoting against airframes that have been flying for years [7]. Read it the other way: constellation operators pay for orbit and timing, and a 3-ton reusable with a bigger sibling behind it covers both. Watch whether Block 2's early customer discussions become booked launches before Pathfinder flies in 2027 [7][4].
