Meta Connect attendees walked past the AI glasses to line up for the VR ones

Meta's Connect 2026 keynote listed five wearables items, and only the Muse pendant surprised The Ghost Howls, which attended. Buyers of the third-generation Ray-Ban Metas left the hall without a price or a date.

What happened

  • Meta's Connect 2026 keynote covered Muse AI across all glasses and headsets, third-generation Ray-Ban Metas with styles including Aviator, glasses made with Lisa, Meta VR Glasses and the Muse Charm.
  • Of those five items, only the pendant came as a surprise to The Ghost Howls, which attended and described the rest of the keynote as more or less what had been expected.
  • At the demo booths after the keynote there were AI glasses everywhere available to try, and attendees went immediately into the line for the VR Glasses.

Why it matters

  • decision A team with budget this quarter has to spend it on hardware that already has a number beside it. That points at the affordable line starting from $249; the Gen 3 Ray-Bans are unpriced.
  • constraint Muse only works as described if it holds a user's app access, so the deployment bottleneck is an IT permissions review of mail and code.
  • exposure Nobody outside Meta handled the pendant at Connect, so the first usable accounts of how it behaves will come from people who have already paid for one.
  • capability The hearing feature gives a support team a reason to issue glasses to one named employee with one defined difficulty. That is a different purchase case from a curious-team pilot.

"I saw absolutely no hype for the new models of smartglasses, because they felt too similar to the ones already on the market," wrote The Ghost Howls, whose author sat through the keynote and then worked the demo booths [12]. Connect attendees are the friendliest audience Meta will ever assemble, so a queue there is a preference among enthusiasts and not a demand forecast. It is still the only measurement from that day. Everything in the room was free to try, and that is what people chose to put on their face [13].

The list bears that out. Meta mostly announced five things, and the account describes the event as more or less expected with the last item as the exception [1][2]. Four of the five were on the pre-show list [16].

The third-generation Ray-Ban Metas came with new styles, including Aviator, and Dolby Atmos sound capture in video. The stage time was brief, and Meta did not state a price or an availability date for them [11].

The keynote opened with a teaser of the "Phoenix" glasses and then turned to Muse [6]. Muse can be customised down to its appearance, the way it speaks and its name [7]. Given access to a user's apps, according to the same account, it will buy clothes, answer emails and push code updates [8]. Boz said the operating system of the new headset was built to be AI native, the blog reports [9]. For whoever has to approve this internally, the frames are the easy half. The hard half is getting permission for mailboxes and repositories.

Meta's own list called the fifth item the Muse Charm; the write-up describes it as a small pendant that keeps Muse with you and the simplest way to interact with the assistant [1][3]. It is due before Christmas [4]. Connect included no demos of it [5].

Two software items did more for a wearer than any frame. Meta said the Ray-Ban Display is coming worldwide, with no new Display hardware announced, which the author calls great news for Europeans [14]. And Meta showed a feature that lets people with hearing impairments use the glasses to hear what is happening around them better. The feature drew praise at the show [15].

The sort worth running on Monday has two columns. One names the person who will wear it and the task it shortens for them. The other holds a price and a date. The hearing feature clears the first column and waits on the second. For a European buyer who has been unable to order one, the Display clears the second. The Gen 3 Ray-Bans clear neither yet. The pendant will not clear the first until somebody has worn one for a week, and by the ship date that somebody is a customer.

What to watch

  • A price and ship date for the third-generation Ray-Ban Metas, which Meta left out of the keynote.
  • First independent hands-on accounts of the Muse pendant once units reach buyers before Christmas.
  • Actual on-sale dates for the Ray-Ban Display in the markets Meta says it is now coming to.
