Anthropic merges Claude's three work surfaces after users lost track of where to start

In Anthropic's own account of the problem, users could not tell whether a task belonged in Design or in Cowork, and whatever they started in one did not carry over to the other ^[8]. So the fix is navigation. The company describes it as capability: "Claude can now figure out what a task needs, so what Cowork and Design can do is available from any conversation, with the context, skills, and connectors you already have," it said ^[10].

All four output destinations the update names belong to somebody else ^[16]. A document can be edited inside Claude or exported and opened in Google Docs or Microsoft Word ^[3]; a deck can be edited in place or downloaded ^[4]. The engadget report does not describe co-editing, comment threads or version history. Claude takes over the blank page and the first pass at formatting; the reviewing, on this evidence, happens wherever the file was exported to.

The person this is built for is the single subscriber who produces a one-pager or a short deck alone and wants it to look finished without opening a second app ^[1][4]. Cowork already read work documents and produced documents, slides and spreadsheets from them ^[6], and Artifacts already kept those outputs in a sidebar ^[7]. Now the conversation is the entry point for both ^[5].

Before this reaches your team, each document type faces the same test: where the file gets finished, and where it lives a month later. If the answers are Word or Google Docs and the document store you already run, Claude is a drafting tool and the export button is the whole integration. If the answer for any type is that the file stays inside Claude and gets shared with colleagues from there, you have acquired a second place where company documents sit, with sharing that starts private and opens at the individual user's discretion ^[2].
