Lake area predicts how much of a Swedish stream network's carbon escapes to the air

Fredrik Alriksson's team sampled 32 connected networks in northern Sweden and found that a tenfold rise in water surface came with 35 times longer residence and a 1.8-fold tilt from downstream export toward the atmosphere.
