The storage tiers make that gap stranger. A 1TB iPhone 18 Pro Max is only $100 cheaper than an entry-level Duo, and the entry Duo has 256GB [11]. Since the Duo starts at $1,999, the 1TB Pro Max sells for $1,899 [16], and the step from 256GB to 1TB on the Pro Max costs $600 [17]. So $100 more than a 1TB Pro Max gets the fold with a quarter of the storage. At matched 256GB the Duo costs $700 more than the Pro Max and $800 more than the Pro [11][18].
Common ground starts with the silicon. All three phones run the same A20 Pro chip [2]. They also share the Super Retina XDR panel technology, the 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide at 13mm, iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and the 256GB to 2TB storage ladder [15]. Even the modem is shared, with the US Pro Max as the exception [14].
The camera is where the price inverts. The Pro models keep a more advanced Main camera, a variable aperture and a dedicated Telephoto [5]. For a team, this comes down to how many times a day the phone would be opened for reading, documents, notes or video. Then count how many people in the group shoot with a telephoto or authenticate with Face ID. Each of those is a gap that exists on this model and nowhere else in the lineup [5][6].
