Feldspar grains date South Dakota's Mammoth Site to at least 160,000 years
The bones were collagen-free, so the site's age came from radiocarbon on bone apatite. Two labs dating the sand around the bones instead returned 160,000 to 232,000 years, and groundwater chemistry is the suspect.
