Thirteen summers of pole readings put Qaanaaq Ice Cap's loss at eight metres of water
A Hokkaido University team drilled aluminum poles into northwestern Greenland's ice every summer from 2012 to 2025, and the record they built traces about half of the growing loss low on the glacier to the ice itself slowing down.
