Virtual power purchase agreements

Contracts in which a buyer settles the difference between a fixed price and the wholesale market price for a generator's output and takes the renewable attributes, without physically receiving the electricity.

Oracle's 433MW Texas wind contract buys output from farms commissioned in 2008 and 2009

Oracle says ten wind projects will put more than 1.7GW onto the ERCOT grid for its Abilene campus. Only two of the agreements carry a megawatt figure, and the larger of them is a virtual PPA over three farms already operating.
