Seismometers will record for 15 months on the seafloor where the 1946 tsunami began

Michigan State and the University of Hawaii are placing ocean-bottom sensors on the Alaskan-Aleutian subduction zone, where batteries and atomic clocks replace the solar panels and GPS that a land station would use, to record how the fault behaves now.
