Tving's answer to a data breach is about 10,000 won of points and coupons per customer, a year of fraud insurance, and 12 billion won a year of security spend by 2030. Those are per-user and per-year figures, which makes them portable to other boards.

The arithmetic behind the advertised value is worth doing. The redeemable part of the package is 5,000 won in Tving points, redeemable against new movie purchases, plus one coupon: either a one-month Wavve ad-supported subscription valued at 5,500 won or a 5,000-won CGV combo discount [9]. Depending on the choice, that is 10,000 or 10,500 won [1]. Jang Hyeon-gyeong, who runs Tving's business management division, put the average customer's total benefit at about 20,000 won [10]. The other 10,000 won is the insurance premium and a viewing upgrade [2], and the upgrade is Tving's own inventory: up to 4K resolution, four concurrent devices and 400 offline downloads, applied automatically from next month through November with no application required [8]. Entitlement flags and bandwidth cost Tving less than the same figure paid out in cash.
The insurance is the only component that pays on a loss, and its cap is 300 times the redeemable points and coupons [3]. Its term is twelve months, ending in September next year [7]. Fraud built on leaked identity records can still occur after that one-year term runs out.
Ko Min-seok, executive vice president for human resources, gave the most useful number of the briefing when he put the current security function at 9.4 people, 4.8 internal and 4.6 external [14]. Net of that base, the five-year plan adds 16 to 21 people [4]. It also splits security into product, cloud, enterprise IT and compliance [13], which lands at roughly six to eight people per discipline at the top of the range [5]. That is the team scheduled to deliver the zero-trust rebuild: authentication and access checks at every stage, permissions scoped to need, and systems and network segments isolated on the assumption that internal breaches happen [16].
The money is a 2030 endpoint rather than this year's budget. Choi Joo-hee said the target represents about four times the level of the previous five years [12]. Read against annual spending, that puts the current base near 3 billion won a year [6].
What the account of the briefing does not carry is scope. It includes no user count, no intrusion vector and no named actor, only Tving's statement that it accepts the public-private joint investigation team's findings [17]. Without a user count, the total bill for the package cannot be derived from the per-customer figure [8]. What can be set against another company's numbers is exactly what Tving published: value per customer, spend per year, headcount at the end of a ramp.

Tving issued a formal apology over a massive personal data breach and announced a compensation package for affected customers.
Tving CEO Choi Joo-hee made the announcement on Thursday at a briefing on the cyberattack held at the Coreana Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Choi said: "We humbly accept the findings of the public-private joint investigation team and sincerely apologize to our customers for the concern and anxiety this incident has caused."
Each customer will receive Tving points and coupons worth about 10,000 won in total, as well as a one-year security insurance policy.
The compensation package has four components: hacking and phishing security insurance, an upgrade to a premium viewing environment, Tving points, and entertainment coupons.
Applications for the compensation package will be accepted from Monday through Sept. 30, with benefits applied through Oct. 6.

Evidence-backed comparisons of source perspectives and observed adoption signals. Read the methodology
Which Builder, Operator, and Investor concerns the observed source mix emphasized—not a truth score.
Evidence, demonstrated adoption, hype gap, incentives, and confidence are assessed independently, each on its own current evidence. How these are measured.
One briefing, one newsroom
Every figure in this story — the 5,000 won of points, the 3 million won insurance ceiling, the 9.4 security staff to the decimal — was spoken by a Tving executive in a hotel room in Jongno-gu and written down by Herald Business, the only outlet carrying it. The granularity is real and the attributions are by name, which is more than most breach statements offer. It is still not corroboration: the investigation findings Tving says it accepts are never quoted, and nobody outside the room has checked a number.
Announced, nothing rolled out
Almost all of this is future tense. Applications open Monday, the insurance starts next month, the 4K upgrade lands automatically from next month, the hiring and the 12 billion won arrive by 2030. What has actually happened is the briefing itself and one disclosed present-day number, the 9.4-person security team. No uptake, and no count of the customers being compensated, exists yet.
Twice the headline, half the wallet
20,000 won is the number Tving wants remembered; 10,000 won is the number a subscriber can spend. The rest is a premium on a policy most customers hope never to claim and a viewing upgrade that switches off in November. The same softness runs through the corporate half: the four-times pledge never says four times what, and 'tripling security specialists' means moving from 9.4 people to a couple of dozen — impressive as a multiple, modest as a headcount for a national streaming platform.
The issuer sets the frame
A post-breach company briefing, complete with a bow, is the entire evidentiary base, and the compensation arithmetic was presented by the head of business management rather than anyone accountable for security. The one figure that would let an outsider size the damage — how many customers were exposed — is the one figure nobody supplied, while the figures that flatter (20,000 won of value, four times the investment, tripled staff) were all volunteered.
Consistent numbers, unverified room
The internal arithmetic holds up, which is why we treat the figures as reportable: 5,000 won of points plus a 5,000 or 5,500 won coupon is the 10,000 won headline, and 9.4 to 25-30 people genuinely is about a tripling. What keeps this middling is that it all comes from one morning, one podium and one publisher — and the single most useful derived number, current annual security spend, hangs on a baseline Tving left ambiguous.
