Meta One's business tiers top out at $499 a month for the most Business Agent capacity

Meta says Meta One now has more than 50 features and 15 million subscriptions and trials. BNP Paribas expects it to add $13.5bn of revenue by 2028; at the $7.99 bundle price, that needs about 141 million paying accounts.

What happened

  • Meta launched Meta One worldwide on 15 September, a subscription spanning Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Meta AI.
  • The company says it has launched more than 50 features under the programme and counted 15 million subscriptions and trials to date.
  • Two individual bundles are priced above the single-app plans: Core at $7.99 a month and Premium at $19.99, both adding more use of Meta's compute-intensive AI image and video tools.

Why it matters

  • cost A creator who needs exportable analytics, scheduling and links in organic posts pays $599.88 a year for Advanced, on top of whatever they already spend on ads.
  • constraint A team buying Core or Premium has to guess how much AI work a seat covers, because the usage limits are unpublished and move with country and system conditions.
  • contradiction Mosseri says the core apps stay free. The paid perk list includes higher search ranking, and that perk pays off only relative to accounts that do not buy it.
  • decision Holders of two single-app plans now face a cheaper route to all three. That decision turns on an AI allowance they cannot see.

Take the person already paying $3.99 a month for Instagram Plus and $2.99 for WhatsApp Plus [5]. Adding Facebook Plus puts them at $10.97 [8], which The Verge rounded to about $11 [7]. Core covers all three feature sets for $7.99 and adds image and video generation through Meta AI's Muse models [6]. The bundle is about 27 percent cheaper than the parts [9]. Meta declined to share the exact limits for Core and Premium, TechCrunch reported, saying they vary by "country, surface and system conditions" [10].

Meta's demand evidence is about composition. In early testing, more than half of subscribers used both the AI features and the expression features, and the company named Restyle and voice effects on Instagram among the top reasons people subscribed [11]. That says what buyers touched. The 15 million headline folds subscriptions and trials into a single number [2], so it hides how many paid after the trial, and Meta's description of retention on the single-app plans is "strong" [24].

The creator ladder gets steep quickly. Essential at $14.99 a month buys a verified badge, impersonation protection pending verification, and more access to Meta Business Agent, which answers customers on WhatsApp [12]. Advanced at $49.99 adds the working tools: story scheduling up to 30 days ahead, exportable analytics, links in organic posts and reels, and team access without a shared password [13]. That is $599.88 a year [16]. Expert starts at $149 and Max at $499 for Meta's highest feature access and Business Agent capacity [14]. Meta said pricing, benefits and availability may vary by region, app and account [29].

Some of what is being sold is distribution. The Verge listed higher rankings in search results among the perks, and the new features include automatic follow invitations to people who engage with an account and a bold follow button on Reels [15]. Mosseri wrote on Threads that "To be clear, the core experience in our apps stays free" [3], and the announcement is framed as addition, with more than 50 features shipped [2].

The revenue case is outside advertising, which Reuters reported is the point [28]. BNP Paribas forecasts the push will add $13.5bn by 2028, TechCrunch reported, and Truist estimates $20bn by 2030 [17]. At Core's price, $95.88 a year, $13.5bn takes about 141 million paying subscriptions [19]. That is roughly nine times the 15 million subscriptions and trials counted so far [20], and about 3.9 percent of the 3.60 billion daily active people Meta averaged across its apps earlier this year [18][21], against about 0.4 percent today [22].

The paid features fall into two piles before renewal. One pile changes what you can make: Muse video, Restyle, Business Agent capacity, scheduling, exportable analytics [6][13]. One billing cycle of comparing what you shipped settles that pile. The other pile changes who sees it: search ranking, follow invitations, the bold follow button [15]. You cannot run your own account with and without a ranking boost, and the boost is worth less as more accounts in your category buy it. The first pile costs $7.99 or $14.99 [6][12]. The second starts at $49.99 [13].

What to watch

  • Whether Meta ever breaks the 15 million figure into paid subscriptions and free trials. That split would test the retention claim.
  • The WhatsApp Plus additions Meta says it will test, storage for chat and media backups and Focus Schedules that mute or hide chats on a schedule.
  • Edits Plus, the move of Meta One onto Meta's AI glasses, and where the Hatch agent prices against the up-to-$199.99 a month Meta planned in August.
