An unreleased Money tab in Claude's iOS app asks users to link their bank accounts

The feature surfaced in the app before Anthropic announced it, so the supported banks, the broker of the connection and the handling of the transaction history it reads are all unannounced.

What happened

  • Anthropic is testing a personal finance feature called Claude Money that lets users connect bank accounts directly to Claude and ask it about their money.
  • TestingCatalog spotted it on X: a new Money section in the Claude app for iOS, sitting alongside the existing Chats, Code, Artifacts, Dispatch and Cowork sections.
  • The page in the app reads "Understand your money with Claude" and invites the user to link bank accounts and ask about spending and plans.
  • Because the references appeared before the expected announcement, the supported banks, the connection method and any US-only or state-level limits are all unknown.

Why it matters

  • decision Approving the Claude iOS app on a device approves every tab Anthropic ships into it, and mobile management does not gate sections inside a single binary.
  • constraint A reviewer cannot assess this yet: Anthropic has named no aggregator and published no retention or training terms, so there is nothing to hold it to.
  • precedent OpenAI's 12,000-plus institution coverage set the bar, and a second frontier lab matching it makes bank linking a standard surface in general-purpose assistants.

By the wording in the app, a user links an account once and then asks Claude questions about it [3]. Nothing is pasted into a prompt. The connection outlives the setup, and which aggregator, if any, sits in the middle for Claude Money is not on the record [6]. OpenAI's comparable feature uses Plaid [7].

The feature is not reaching most users, and the strings arrived ahead of the expected announcement, which is why the details are thin [4][5]. BleepingComputer, not Anthropic, expects a limited rollout and said it would not be surprised if Claude Money never ships in Europe because of local privacy laws [10].

Counted against the sections already in the iOS build, Money would be the sixth top-level tab [11]. Code and Cowork are on the same list [2]. A mobile policy that allows the Claude app on a managed or personal device allows whatever tab Anthropic adds to it next, and this tab reads bank transaction history.

The practical exposure is smaller and more specific than the framing suggests. Nothing in the record has Claude Money touching corporate accounts, business banking, or enterprise plans. What it changes is the blast radius of a single consumer credential: the Claude login that protects an employee's chat history would also protect a live read of their spending. Account takeover on that login now yields financial reconnaissance.

For anyone writing the allow-or-block decision, the useful comparison is the product that already shipped. ChatGPT's Finances connects bank accounts, credit cards, brokerages and other accounts, and answers questions on spending, bills, subscriptions, savings, net worth and investments [7][8]. OpenAI says it does not train models on that personal data, and puts its coverage at more than 12,000 financial institutions in the United States [9].

What to watch

  • Anthropic publishing a supported-institution list and naming the aggregator, which settles who holds the bank token.
  • Whether Claude Money appears on Team and Enterprise plans or stays on consumer accounts only.
  • Whether the feature launches in the EU or UK, and on what legal basis.
