Limescale in the Pont du Gard aqueduct traces 300 years of water crises and one deliberate diversion
Hard water left annual layers inside the channel that fed Nimes. A Mainz team sampled them at ten points to date the Roman decisions about who received the water and when the city stopped getting any.
