Adding Indigenous territories and wildlife units lifts Mexico's carnivore coverage to 39%
A Yale mapping study finds legally designated protected land covers 16% of the habitat of 28 Mexican carnivores. Counting community-managed categories the state does not tally raises that to 39%. That gap turns recognition into a budget question.
